In the upcoming Android app update, it’s rumored that YouTube may introduce a feature designed to assist users in breaking free from prolonged viewing of YouTube Shorts, potentially combating extended doomscrolling sessions.
In response to the possibility of a ban on TikTok in the U.S., other short video apps such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels are putting in extra effort to enhance their platforms, aiming to attract users away if TikTok, owned by ByteDance, is ultimately prohibited.
YouTube now offers the ability to create videos up to three minutes long and is developing an internal video editing tool within its app, whereas Instagram Reels is experimenting with methods for securing private videos and also introducing a ‘pause’ function for video playback.
In the upcoming Android app release, Android Authority has unveiled a fresh feature designed to help you break free from spending excessive amounts of time endlessly scrolling through the application, potentially saving you from the peril of doomscrolling.
YouTube begins testing daily app timer
Based on reports from an Android-centric publication, analysis of the most recent beta version of the app has uncovered fresh lines of code suggesting the development of a specialized daily timer specifically designed for scrolling through YouTube Shorts.
The design seems to ensure that scrolling stops when the daily limit, as set by the user, is met. However, the platform indicates that you’ll still be able to view individual Shorts videos that appear elsewhere on the site.
This includes videos on the recommendations page or on your favorite creator’s channel.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and eyes peeled for the day YouTube decides to introduce this exciting new feature for Android users. While they haven’t given us an exact timeline or even confirmed if it will happen, their interest is evident, so here’s hoping they’ll give it a shot soon!
If you’re aiming to establish a daily timer within TikTok, which is owned by ByteDance, you can easily do so! Simply navigate to the ‘Settings’ section, then select ‘Screen Time’, and finally choose ‘Daily Screen Time’. This is where you’ll find the option to set your desired time limit.
To ensure children’s safety online, it is set by default that users aged 13-17 will only be allowed an hour of screen time per day. This setting can be adjusted as needed.
