The upcoming launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, Mario Kart World, seems packed with fresh elements and secrets in its expansive open-world. One potential game-altering feature could be the option to control large semi-trucks or even watercraft.
At a recent Nintendo Switch 2 event, as demonstrated by YouTuber GetMadz, Mario Kart World allows players to operate colossal vehicles within the game environment or along the sides of racetracks. By driving into the question-box section of these special vehicles with your kart, you can briefly commandeer them.

In the scenario of GetMadz, they encountered a situation where they navigated into a vast watercraft while adventuring across an ocean within the game’s open-world setting. Subsequently, it was disclosed that such massive vehicles could be utilized for defeating opponents in the game’s land-based tracks as well. Interestingly, while GetMadz had the opportunity to pilot the boat during free exploration, they also discovered that this watercraft was available for use during an official race too.
In the unveiling trailer for Mario Kart World, you can catch a brief moment where Birdo collides with a truck during the competition, subsequently running over several other competitors.
At the moment, it’s uncertain whether there are several of these unique vehicles or just one for every kind of terrain. Nintendo is expected to disclose additional information regarding this aspect during their upcoming Mario Kart World Direct, scheduled for April 17th.
The cost of Mario Kart World will be set at $80, whereas other Nintendo Switch 2 games will retail for $70 or less. Nintendo justifies this price by highlighting the game’s extensive features, calling it the most comprehensive in the series and packed with numerous secrets and intricacies for players to explore.
Fans have scrutinized footage from Mario Kart World to estimate the number of playable characters at launch, which seems to be around 84 (including different costumes). In our preview of Mario Kart World, TopMob described the next game in the series as a “bold successor” to Mario Kart 8, characterized by fresh concepts and enjoyable surprises.
Mario Kart World is scheduled to debut alongside the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th. Initially, Nintendo planned to start preorders for the console bundle containing Mario Kart World on April 9th, but due to recently implemented US tariffs by the Trump administration, they’ve postponed the preorder date indefinitely. Some experts suggest that the Switch 2 might experience a price hike as a result of these tariffs. However, Nintendo has yet to reveal a new preorder date or adjusted pricing for the console bundle with Mario Kart World included.
