In the United States, the critically-acclaimed television series “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” directed by Justin Kurzel and featuring Jacob Elordi as a brave Australian war veteran, has been acquired for streaming by Amazon’s Prime Video under the Sony Pictures Television banner.
As a captivated movie critic, I’m thrilled to announce that the critically acclaimed Australian drama series, adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel, is set to grace our screens on April 18. This gripping tale will be available in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand on Prime Video, having previously been aired in numerous territories. The series was masterfully penned by Shaun Grant, known for his work on “Nitram” and “Mindhunter”. I can’t wait to immerse myself in this compelling story!
The limited series is overseen by Jo Porter and Rachel Gardner of Curio Pictures, which falls under Sony Pictures Television, along with executive producers Richard Flanagan, Shaun Grant, and Justin Kurzel. Alex Taussig also contributes as a producer. The main production funding comes from Screen Australia, with additional support from the NSW Government via their Made in NSW and PDV Funds.

In this adaptation, actor Elordi portrays Lieutenant-Colonel Dorrigo Evans, a highly respected World War II figure who grapples with his harrowing past in a Japanese POW camp and recollections of his passionate relationship with Amy Mulvaney (Odessa Young), which provided solace during the toughest moments, as depicted in Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel.
In this production, Elordi and Odessa Young are cast opposite Oscar nominee Ciarán Hinds, with Olivia DeJonge, Simon Baker, Show Kasamatsu, Heather Mitchell, and Thomas Weatherall also featured. Here, Hinds plays the older Dorrigo Evans, while DeJonge, Baker, Kasamatsu, Mitchell, and Weatherall take on various other roles.
The series had an outstanding debut at the Berlin Film Festival, receiving excellent critic reviews. Both Kurzel and Elordi were present during its launch.
