Nowadays, multiverses are all the rage in cinema, and even Sonic the Hedgehog has joined the bandwagon with its animated series on Netflix – Sonic Prime. After completing its three-season run, Sonic Prime is now available for preorder as a Blu-ray box set with a steelbook case, titled Sonic Prime: The Complete Series Steelbook. This collector’s item can be purchased for $50 on Amazon before its release on June 24.
In a manner similar to catastrophic events, Sonic Prime begins with the cosmos fracturing due to Sonic’s disregard for the counsel of his companions while confronting Dr. Eggman. With the multiverse hanging in the balance, Sonic embarks on a journey to various realms to rectify his error. Throughout this adventure, he crosses paths with revised and peculiar iterations of his allies who play crucial roles in assisting him on his mission.
In essence, this show is designed primarily for children, offering them an enjoyable experience filled with humor and action derived from the exploration of multiple universes within an animated setting.
Sonic the Hedgehog Animated Series
If you’re aiming to gather all the Sonic the Hedgehog animated shows, consider getting the other series on DVD or Blu-ray as Sonic Prime is the sixth one in the lineup. Back in the ’90s, Sonic had two animated series: the humorous Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and the more seriousin a cartoon contextSonic the Hedgehog.
The series following Sonic Underground was another peculiar take on Sonic, maintaining its quirky style. In this animated show, Sonic teamed up with his siblings Sonia and Manic. Together, they used music to combat the oppressive Dr. Robotnik, aiming to overthrow him and reclaim their rightful throne. Interestingly enough, all three Sonic siblings were voiced by Jaleel White, best known for his role as Steve Urkel from Family Matters. And yes, he took on that challenge successfully.
Moving on to contemporary eras, Sonic X was a Japanese anime television series that aired from 2003 to 2005, while Sonic Boom marked the shift to computer-generated imagery when it debuted in 2014. Now, we’re talking about Sonic Prime, but interestingly, only the initial two seasons of this show have been released on Blu-ray discs so far.
