It seemed like the second season episode 8 of 1923 was set to release last night, however, there’s some confusion. Despite the Yellowstone spin-off series having concluded its production, it appears that Apple TV subscribers are receiving conflicting information.
If you haven’t caught up with Episode 7 of the popular Taylor Sheridan series, it might be best to avoid this conversation – we’re about to revisit some heavy realities. The concluding chapter of 1923 Season 2 saw seven primary characters meet their end permanently, and Spencer, portrayed as a character, is shown not to remarry following Alex’s tragic demise.
As a dedicated fan, I was taken aback when I discovered that the little one isn’t just any kid in the game world of 1923. It turns out he’s John Dutton II, the offspring of Kevin Costner’s character from the primary series. I thought last week’s episode marked the end of this spin-off, but Apple TV hinted otherwise, keeping me on my toes for more thrilling episodes to come!
As you explore the platform right now, it indicates that the 8th episode of the second season of “1923” is available for viewing. However, you might be wondering if there’s a reason for this and whether viewers may have overlooked something.
1923 Season 2 Episode 8 originally existed, and still does for Apple TV
No need to worry – you haven’t overlooked a Yellowstone spin-off show. Originally, it was thought that Season 2 of 1923 would consist of eight episodes, but in fact, the finale was compressed into one episode (Episode 7). It appears that Apple TV is still categorizing the series as eight episodes, which may be why the finale seems mislabeled.
From the screenshot provided, it appears that Apple has labeled the duration of the show as less than an hour, but we now know this isn’t accurate. The description seems to offer a broad summary of the series itself, with the accompanying image resembling a silhouette of a Yellowstone character rather than the spinoff itself.
Below is a link to direct you to Paramount’s own application. There, you’ll find every episode accurately listed. By pressing the “Season 2 Episode 8” button on your Apple TV, you can watch the original airing of the double finale.

Despite the information disclosed, fans are understandably puzzled by this development. One fan shared their insight: “I guess I’ll be the one to say it. Initially, Season 2 was planned to have eight episodes, but Paramount didn’t want to pay the actors additional fees for an extra episode. So, they merged episodes 7 and 8 into a single episode to cut costs. That’s all.
Another person remarked, “Perhaps we should apply some common sense and consider it as a malfunction of some sort. Isn’t that self-evident?
A third person commented, “Instead of abruptly ending it mid-action, they decided to enhance the climax by adding more. Originally, Season 1 was meant to conclude at Episode 10 like 1883, but due to Taylor’s desire for a more fitting conclusion, it was extended into two seasons. The same approach was taken with Episode 7 of Season 2.”
Initially, the plan was for just a single season, but as Taylor Sheridan found that he required additional time to narrate this piece of the Dutton family’s tale, Paramount granted him the freedom to divide the series into two separate seasons instead.
As we reach the midpoint of this gaming season, things feel distinctly unlike the predictable pattern of 1883 for me. Back then, I had every move mapped out, but now it seems like uncharted territory. I shared this with The Hollywood Reporter.
I had no clue about my next steps. I just embarked on a personal adventure and it was me who contacted the network, which might have been their most exciting call ever. ‘Listen, I need to produce additional episodes to wrap up this narrative. I want to do it in two installments.’
Instead of wrapping up the story in just two episodes, it will be divided into two blocks, each containing eight episodes. This way, I can adequately tell the story, and they will receive additional content. For me, this means more opportunities to continue developing the narrative.
