While Yellowjackets hasn’t received an official green light for a fourth season yet, there are indications that it might return. According to Variety, the show’s audience has been increasing with each season – over 2 million viewers tuned in for the season premiere, which is more than in season two, and the viewership remained steady throughout. The showrunners, Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco, have expressed their intention to wrap up the series within five seasons. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in 2023, Lyle stated: “We don’t really see this as being more than a five-season show… This isn’t really one of those setup shows where it can go anywhere.” So, while we wait for an official announcement, there’s reason to believe that Yellowjackets could be wrapping up its story within the next couple of seasons.
The end of season three suggests the potential for these girls’ rescue in future seasons, but regardless, there are still untold stories through flashbacks. Lyle shared with the Los Angeles Times, “The girls have undergone significant changes, whether for good or ill, during their time out there, mainly due to their youth. They were already quite pliable, and they’ve evolved into entirely different individuals. Witnessing these people reacclimating to a world that is now foreign to them in many ways promises rich storytelling and an opportunity to explore their characters more deeply.
