Today, Bungie showcased their upcoming shooter game, Marathon, during a live stream event where they disclosed numerous details about it, including the release date. The exciting news is that Marathon is set to be released on September 23, coincidentally on the same day as the much-anticipated Borderlands 4 from Gearbox. Following closely behind, there are rumors that Grand Theft Auto 6 might make its appearance in October.
The 1994 namesake game by Bungie, now known as Marathon, is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. This game allows for cross-platform play and saves on all compatible devices.
Additionally, during the live stream broadcast today, Bungie revealed that they are initiating a closed alpha trial for Marathon starting in April. Here’s how you can register for the Marathon closed alpha test.
Bungie showcased Marathon’s first alpha gameplay footage during the livestream today.
In this game, the action unfolds on the planet Tau Ceti IV. Here, players assume the character of a Runner, who is essentially a high-tech freelancer seeking wealth and influence. Working in teams of three, these Runners engage in battles with rival groups of cybernetic mercenaries, as well as artificial intelligence adversaries. The main objective, similar to other extraction games, is to endure using salvaged resources, escape unharmed, and then repeat the cycle all over again.
Runner characters can be personalized by selecting various weapons, gear, and enhancements that influence gameplay style. For optimal performance, teams should collaborate tactically when choosing their team composition.
According to Bungie, Marathon’s first season will include endgame challenges, competitive ranked play, seasonal narratives, community activities, and additional features.
Additionally, Bungie unveiled an engaging Marathon cinematic short film, penned and helmed by Alberto Mielgo (known for Tron: Uprising, Love, Death & Robots). The cast of this cinematic production features Erica Lindbeck as Glitch, Elias Toufexis as Void, Nika Futterman as Blackbird, Donnla Hughes as ONI, and Ben Starr as the Narrator.
