Jim Can’t Swim (JCS), often referred to as such because he can’t swim, is undeniably one of the most prominent true crime content creators on YouTube, boasting a whopping 5.5 million subscribers, even though he only uploads about one or two videos annually. Surprisingly, his channel recently posted a new mini-documentary, but along with it came an unanticipated apology.
Month after month, streaming services offer an abundance of true crime content for viewers to explore. However, YouTube has emerged as a formidable competitor to traditional channels. Shows like “That Chapter” and “Rotten Mango,” among many others, provide a vast array of vlogger content. These shows frequently delve into stories more swiftly than mainstream networks can.
Despite being an exception, JCS stands out. Renowned for its tranquil narration and detailed exploration of the psychology within police interrogations, this channel’s programming was among the pioneers in transforming raw interrogation footage into intricate, almost scientifically precise investigative analyses.
The team’s unique approach to analytical true crime content on YouTube has ignited an entire subgenre, inspiring many other creators to emulate their tone, rhythm, and aesthetic. However, their channel has been subjected to numerous criticisms throughout its history, culminating in a recent apology.
Why did JCS apologize to true crime fans?
Hey there! Let me tell you a bit about my experience with JCS, this enigmatic figure in the gaming world. They’ve always been something of a puzzle – not just because of their infrequent uploads, but due to their unpredictable presence on different platforms. You see, I’ve found myself chasing after them like a digital treasure hunt, following them from YouTube to Patreon and then back again. It’s been a rollercoaster, with moments of excitement when new content appears, only to be left in the dark about their next move.
Occasional large breaks between video releases – sometimes lasting up to a year – have fueled speculation about exhaustion, legal complications, or perhaps the channel was bought or simply left unused.
In previous discussions, JCS has hinted at problems related to YouTube monetization. However, in their most recent video titled ‘Husband tries to act his way out of a murder charge’, they attached this apology in the comment section:
I apologize for any disappointment this may have caused, but the channel hasn’t been sold and we’re still very much active. We’ve been grappling with some issues outside of our control related to YouTube.
Let’s compensate for the past and provide regular content moving forward, if you’d be open to another opportunity with us. Regardless, my affection remains towards each of you. It’s hard to comprehend how you managed to bring us this far.
On April 3, 2025, exactly four months following JCS’s initial upload and subsequent removal of the mini-doc ‘Newlyweds Confess Secrets’, the related comment and video were posted instead.
JCS narrator clears up AI confusion
This video led to allegations that JCS switched from their regular narrator, YouTuber Kizzume, to AI narration, and true crime enthusiasts argued that the quality of this latest release was significantly poorer compared to their typical standard.

Following the detection of the takedown, someone posted on the JCS subreddit: “Yes, the quality of the video wasn’t as good as previously, the AI voices sounded unusual, and there was more raw footage without any commentary.
It seems likely that the majority of the initial group is no longer associated with this project. It’s clear that they are no longer collaborating with Kizzume on narration duties.
A third person chimed in, ” frankly, it was quite subpar. I’m puzzled as to why they believed they could offer us mediocre content that doesn’t even measure up to their competitors, given how long they’ve been away.
Many people suspected that JCS had been taken over by a completely different group, which might explain the change in quality. However, with allegations pouring in, Kizzume stepped forward to clarify any misunderstandings.
I noticed that some folks are spreading misinformation about JCS and me. To set the record straight, JCS sought my approval before leveraging AI technology to mimic my voice, and I am being fairly compensated for every word used, just as I would be in any other project.
I can assure you that they’re not taking advantage of me. In future, their content should include my authentic voiceovers.”

“Rest assured, I won’t be deceived by them. Their upcoming uploads will feature my genuine narration.
Kizzume explained that the AI was employed to expedite the process, as they had been absent for two years due to personal difficulties and desired to release the videos promptly. However, it has become clear that this was an error, and they will now devote additional time to produce videos using their genuine voice.
In the most recent post by JCS, it seems the quality has returned to its usual standard, prompting numerous supporters to express their approval. One fan, in particular, responded to the apology with a reassuring message: “Don’t worry, goat. You’re back now.
One person assured them, “There’s always room for a do-over,” as another chimed in, “I sensed your return, and it feels great.
