Al Munteanu Steps Down as CEO of Vuelta Germany to Launch BriskPace Studios

In a significant reshuffle within the German film and TV industry, Al Munteanu, CEO of Vuelta Germany, who has just finalized the merger of the pan-European studio’s German divisions, is departing to concentrate on production activities. Munteanu will pass his responsibilities to Dirk Schweitzer, who is currently the head of German studio MMC, and who will now take over at Vuelta Germany.

Previously holding prominent roles at various German media corporations, such as the CEO of Splendid Media, a producer/distributor in Germany, and the managing director of Tele-München Group, Schweitzer has been appointed to serve as the temporary leader for Velta Germany, as stated.

Munteanu played a significant role in the integration of Vuelta’s SquareOne Entertainment, Telepool, and EuroVideo entities. As part of this amalgamation, Telepool’s international sales arm, Global Screen, has been incorporated into Vuelta’s French division Playtime. Furthermore, Vuelta Germany sealed a fresh contract for booking and billing with Constantin Film for their extensive collection of theatrical films. The combined Telepool-SquareOne unit now boasts over 1,000 titles in its library catering to German-speaking Europe, featuring notable films like “The Imitation Game,” “Olympus Has Fallen,” and the French success “Intouchables.

In Muntenau, at Vuelta Germany, they have been in charge of creating a multitude of movies and TV shows, such as “Ironclad,” Netflix’s “Totenfrau,” and “Oxen,” which is an adaptation of the Danish thriller book series.

Starting from now, Munteanu takes over as both the owner and operator of SquareOne Productions, which is being renamed BriskPace Studios. He’ll be working alongside Vuelta on various projects. Munteanu will continue to hold shares in Vuelta and serve as a senior advisor there as well.

Based in both Munich and London, BriskPace Studios is currently working on several upcoming movie and television projects, but they’re keeping the details confidential for now.

Right from the start, Al played a pivotal role in shaping our strategy in Germany,” Jerome Levy, Chairman of Vuelta Media, stated. “Although we’ll surely miss his guidance, we celebrate his enthusiasm for creating content and wish him the very best on his upcoming endeavors,” he continued, expressing that “With our shared strengths across Europe, we eagerly anticipate collaborating with him and his team in the future.

Beyond German borders, the company known as Vuelta – privately-equity funded – possesses several production companies, including France’s Pan and Playtime, Italy’s Indiana Production, WW Entertainment across Benelux, Scanbox Entertainment in Scandinavia, among other entities.
