Open-World Camper Simulator Outbound Is Getting A Closed-Alpha Very Soon

The independent open-world camping simulator titled “Outbound,” which allows players to survive while living off the grid in a vehicle resembling a van, will be launching its closed alpha version on April 14th.

2025 saw the unveiling of a fresh trailer for a forthcoming survival-crafting game during the Triple-I Initiative presentation. In its closed alpha phase, players will delve into the initial biome – vast plains and forests – to explore, collaborate in four-player cooperative mode, experiment with the building system, and many other features.

In order to gain entry into the closed alpha phase, gamers are required to register for the game’s news updates via the Outbound website. Come April 14th, some of these registered users will be chosen at random to participate in the playtesting sessions.

According to Square Glade Games, who shared this on Steam, the ‘closed alpha’ is an early version of the game they’re working on. Their aim is to test mechanics and overall game stability with just a few players. Fingers crossed, you might be one of them!

According to Square Glade Games, many aspects of the game such as cooking, vehicle and character upgrades, environmental challenges, collectibles, and more are already in the alpha stage. However, there are still some features being developed that will be added at the time of launch. These upcoming features include fishing, bee-keeping, new biomes, expanded character customization options, a pet dog companion, and complete controller compatibility.

Initially, adventurers embark with a solar-powered RV devoid of accessories, fueled by eco-friendly energy sources, and guided by ambition. As they progress, they gather resources to fashion enhancements, transforming the RV into a self-sustaining marvel boasting sophisticated technology and edible plant gardens for sustenance.

In September 2024, the game garnered close to $300,000 on Kickstarter. Following this success, Square Glade Games pledged to incorporate additional features such as fishing and a canine companion in the game. However, an official launch date for Outbound has not been set yet; its projected delivery date on Kickstarter is January 2026. The game is intended to be available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It’s worth noting that the console release date might differ from the PC release date.
