Nike Released GoldenEye 007-Inspired Sneakers, And They Quickly Sold Out

27 years ago, the GoldenEye 007 game came out slightly after the movie it shares its name with. However, it arrived perfectly timed to become a massive hit on the Nintendo 64 console and one of the most iconic shooter games ever created. Nike has paid tribute to one of James Bond’s top video games by releasing a pair of shoes, but if you didn’t snatch them up when they were available, you might have missed your opportunity.

Earlier this week, Nike launched the Nike Air Max 1 Low Poly Big Head Mode sneakers, inspired by the Big Head Mode from GoldenEye 007, priced at $160. These shoes were quickly snapped up because they flew off the shelves almost as soon as they became available.

As per GQ, the black leather embellishments are intended as a tribute to Bond’s timeless tuxedos, while the gold details pay homage to the game’s Golden Gun. However, the most obvious reference to the game can be found at the back of the shoe, where the Nike Air logo is encircled by GoldenEye 007’s distinctive health and armor bars.

Back in 2021, Nike wasn’t new to the gaming world, as they had already unveiled a line of sneakers inspired by the PlayStation 5. A step back in time, in 2020, Nike collaborated with Microsoft on an Xbox One X edition modeled after Air Jordan.

In a recent change, the long-standing producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have sold their controlling stake in the Bond franchise to Amazon MGM Studios. Previously, it was revealed that producer Barbara Broccoli had resisted including guns in the 2010 remake of GoldenEye 007, when she held a position at Activision.

IO Interactive is at present working on the next James Bond video game, codenamed Project 007. This upcoming title will showcase a younger Bond, offering a fresh take on the character’s origin. Additionally, it is planned for release on Nintendo Switch 2. For movie enthusiasts, a 4k steelbook collection of the six Sean Connery-led Bond films will hit shelves in June.
