In what state might we find ourselves absent the contributions of modders? Some of their creations border on artistic masterpieces, such as embedding an entire Shrek film within a video game. Others, though, may be better left unexplored (trust me, avoid the Monster Hunter Wilds one). But then there are those who truly save the day – mods that bring contemporary technology to older games. And let’s not forget the out-of-this-world project: someone is attempting to transform Sea Power into another game entirely.
Modern jet fighters in a Cold War navy game? This mod makes it happen
Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age offers a strategic experience where you can take charge of NATO and Warsaw Pact forces during Cold War conflicts spanning from the 60’s to the 80’s. However, for some players, the air combat wasn’t entirely satisfying, so…
Skies Unknown offers an exhilarating aerial battle experience by allowing players to pilot sophisticated fighter jets. What was needed was just the right blend of the Ace Combat series and Sea Power’s strategic gameplay.
Instead of “So, Misaka and Texas_the_Omertosa decided to fix that,” you could say “Misaka and Texas_the_Omertosa chose to address the issue by doing something about it.”
Instead of “ brings elements of Ace Combat 7 into the game,” you could say “introduces aspects reminiscent of Ace Combat 7 in the game.”
The key features could be listed as follows:
– Introducing elements similar to those found in Ace Combat 7.
– Enhancing the overall gaming experience with these new additions.
– Offering a more immersive and dynamic gameplay by incorporating advanced combat techniques, realistic graphics, and engaging storylines.
- Ace Combat-style Fillable Missiles – Brings a new missile system inspired by Ace Combat 7, with various missile types featuring different ranges, tracking, and guidance mechanics.
- Improved maneuverability – Aircraft can now handle better, though there’s a chance of flying into space (yes, really).
- New Aircraft – Includes the Su-30SM, F-16C, F/A-18F, and more.
- Expanded Weaponry – Additional weapons for each aircraft.
But there are some limitations as well:
- The mod relies on SeaLifter for proper installation.
- Due to the short-range ammo, it’s mainly suited for close-range combat scenarios.
- If you want to tweak ammo ranges, you’ll have to modify the files yourself.
- Some missiles now use direct guidance, meaning they fly straight at the target rather than using traditional tracking.
Not only that, but Misaka also disclosed on the Discord server of the BuOrd: Naval Modding Community that they’re developing additional content for Ace Combat 7, such as the International Space Elevator. That’s correct, you heard it here first. They plan to incorporate the Lighthouse into a game set during the Cold War era.
