Nintendo Switch 2 UK pre-orders sell out in the first day

Today, we caught a glimpse of the anticipated popularity for the Nintendo Switch 2. Even with a 90-day hold on global tariffs, pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada are still experiencing delays. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t provided any updates. However, in other regions like the UK, pre-orders are open. Over the last week since the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans have been quite vocal about their displeasure. The high prices of Mario Kart World and other console accessories aren’t sitting well with anyone. Many wonder if this strong criticism will lead to poor pre-order sales. So far, in the UK at least, pre-orders are being snapped up quickly.

Nintendo Switch 2 sells out across nine online stores in the UK

In various global markets, the situation is distinct, implying this may not predict events elsewhere accurately, but it’s one of the first locations where pre-orders for Switch 2 can be made in advance. Please note that at present, these pre-orders are exclusively through third-party retailers. If you’d rather place your order directly with Nintendo, you can express your interest on their official website. Preliminary invitations for pre-ordering are anticipated to begin in May, but ensure you meet the criteria first. Invitations prioritized will be sent to users who have had a Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscription for twelve months and have logged more than fifty hours of gameplay. Additionally, it’s advisable to check whether you have shared information with Nintendo, which is straightforward to verify.

Thanks to TechRadar, they’ve put together a list of nine UK sites where you can pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2. Unfortunately, upon checking each site, I found that all of them are either sold out or unavailable. This applies to both the standard console and the one bundled with “Mario Kart World.” Even though Nintendo aimed to increase hardware availability for this release, it appears that these retailers have already run out of stock within the first day.

For the United States, the situation with Nintendo’s Switch remains unclear due to several factors. Firstly, Nintendo has not yet provided any updates regarding the ongoing tariff-related delay. Secondly, there is speculation about whether recent controversies might negatively impact sales. Given that the U.S. was a significant market for the original Switch and Nintendo may have expected high pre-orders, it’s possible they are well-prepared. However, if you plan to pre-order as soon as possible, it would be wise not to base your expectations solely on this.

It’s quite obvious that the rapid selling out of pre-orders in the UK suggests a high demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide. However, if Nintendo decides to increase its price, sales in the U.S. might slow down. Regardless, this will make for an exciting news saga as we approach the launch date on June 5th, 2025. The question is, who will actually manage to get their hands on a Switch 2 by then?
