VTuber BANNED by Nintendo Over Pokemon Hack

Nintendo has cautioned the Japanese VTuber firm, Hololive, following one of their popular figures, Pekora, streaming an altered edition of the game Pokemon Emerald.

Among the globe’s leading virtual YouTubers, Pekora boasts a massive following of 2.7 million subscribers and consistently ranks among the most popular content creators on the platform.

On the 30th of March, Pekora shared on Twitter her intention to play Pokemon Emerald and attempt to capture a Shiny Mew. However, according to Automaton, the issue lies in the significant difficulty of this endeavor.

As reported by the source, Pekora acquired numerous second-hand Emerald game cartridges from an online auction platform in hopes of finding one with “the ancient sea map” – a unique item exclusive to the Japanese Pokemon convention held in 2005, which is essential for encountering Mew.

Some gamers have circumvented this issue by modifying their game cartridges, and it seems like Pekora might have been using a modified cartridge during her livestream. It’s important to note that Nintendo expressed displeasure over such actions.

Nintendo takes action against Pekora’s Pokemon stream

On April 9th, Hololive shared an announcement stating that they’d been notified by Nintendo, resulting in the removal of Pekora’s livestream.

Besides requesting the removal of the stream, Nintendo advised the agency to steer clear of initiating any video projects that could potentially breach their guidelines.

Nintendo additionally asked the agency to convey to its streamers the “importance of adhering to the rules.

Hololive promptly expressed their regret and disclosed their efforts to avoid any potential future legal issues with Nintendo.

Beyond just privatizing the video, we aim to enhance and optimize various aspects including streamlining the planning process, educating and supporting our team members,” they explained. “We regret any disruption this might bring to our audience and other concerned parties.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m not the only one who’s experienced repercussions for breaching Nintendo’s rules lately among Japanese creators. We’ve all got to tread carefully when it comes to their guidelines!

In March, professional Smash Ultimate player and expert Snake gamer known as ‘Hurt’ was prohibited from participating due to employing modifications on his Nintendo Switch to enhance the Wi-Fi connectivity.
