As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! Mike Flanagan’s “Carrie” TV series is casting key roles, and I’ve exclusively learned that Siena Agudong has signed on for the Amazon adaptation of Stephen King’s classic novel. She will be portraying Sue Snell in a series regular role.
The most recent update on casting for “Carrie” has emerged this week, following our previous report that Summer H. Howell is in talks to play the lead character in the series.
The show called “Carrie” was first mentioned as being developed by Amazon back in October 2024. At the moment, there’s no official confirmation of it being greenlit for a series, but rumors suggest that news might be breaking soon. According to insider information, the production team is preparing to start filming this summer in Vancouver.
The plot summary presents the series as a daring and relevant modern retelling of the tale of socially isolated high-schooler Carrie White, who has always lived in seclusion under her overbearing mother’s control. Following the unexpected and unfortunate demise of her father, Carrie must navigate the unfamiliar territory of mainstream High School, endure a school bullying incident that devastates her peers, and uncover the emergence of enigmatic psychokinetic abilities.
In the book and movie versions, Sue first participates in tormenting Carrie, but eventually chooses to attempt friendship instead. Amy Irving portrayed this character in the initial film and its sequel “The Rage: Carrie 2,” while Kandyse McClure and Gabriella Wilde took on the role in later “Carrie” movies.
Agudong has recently taken on starring roles in various productions. She most recently headlined the Tubi film “The QB and Me,” which she also served as executive producer for. Previously, she was the female lead in Kevin Smith’s coming-of-age movie “The 4:30 Movie.” Upcoming projects include Juan Pablo Arias Munoz’s directorial debut, “What She Doesn’t Know.” In television, she has been featured on the “Resident Evil” series, “No Good Nick” on Netflix, as well as shows such as “Hawaii Five-O” and “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn.
She is repped by Gersh, Trilogy Talent, and Hirsch Wallerstein.
Flanagan is not only penning and taking on the executive production of “Carrie,” but he’s also assuming the role of showrunner and director for the project. Additionally, Trevor Macy contributes to the series as an executive producer.
The first novel penned by Stephen King, titled “Carrie,” was initially released in 1974 and quickly rose to become a top-selling book. This literary success led to its film adaptation in 1976, with Sissy Spacek taking on the lead role. Under the direction of Brian DePalma, this horror movie earned over $30 million at the box office, while only costing approximately $2 million to produce. It’s often hailed as one of the greatest horror films ever made.
