Hades 2 will launch as a console exclusive on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

In today’s Creator’s Voice video on Nintendo’s YouTube channel, I was thrilled to catch wind of the exclusivity news for Hades 2! This series showcases developers from the Switch 2 Direct every day since it premiered, and today, Supergiant Games stole the spotlight. Towards the end of the video, an informative slide popped up revealing that Hades 2 will launch first on the Nintendo Switch 2… but The Supergiant social media page later confirmed this exciting news.

For approximately a year now, “Hades 2” has been in Early Access on Steam without any clear release date for its final version. During the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, it was announced that the full game will be launched later this year; however, it seems PlayStation and Xbox players may have to wait longer. Since the original Hades is widely available across various platforms, including consoles and mobile devices through Netflix, fans who enjoyed the first game on these platforms might feel left out from playing its sequel.

If you’re wondering when other console users might be able to play Hades 2, it may not take too long after its initial release. Since the original game debuted on PC and Switch in September 2020, and then on Xbox and PlayStation in August 2021, a similar timeline could apply for the sequel. However, it’s important to note that console exclusivity isn’t set in stone for Hades 2, so we can only speculate at this point. Nintendo has expressed interest in bolstering their third-party games lineup for the Switch 2, which could potentially influence the exclusivity period of the game.

Despite an impressive roster of games slated for release in 2025, including this week’s standout indie title Blue Prince, there is still a strong anticipation that Hades 2 will be a serious contender for Game of the Year this year. This heightened expectation stems from the fact that Early Access has allowed many gamers to preview the sequel ahead of its full release. The original Hades, which was nominated at the Game Awards in 2020, set a high bar, so it’s reasonable to assume that the sequel will continue this trend, given the positive feedback it has received from over 58,000 Steam players, with 94% of reviews being favorable.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has stirred up debates due to the absence of pricing details in its unveiling event. Contrary to fans’ demands, Mario Kart World is set to retail at $80. Moreover, Nintendo revealed on Friday that they are postponing pre-orders in the U.S., as they assess the potential effects of increased tariffs on their pricing strategy.
