WhatsApp’s iOS Chat Privacy beta is trying out new features, including one that stops photos and videos from auto-saving to your device

WhatsApp is currently developing an “enhanced chat privacy” feature for its iOS beta version, which empowers users by restricting others from exporting chat logs and stopping media such as images and videos from automatically being saved in your photo gallery. This update is a welcome improvement, addressing long-standing issues regarding the security of chats, potential data leaks, and unauthorized sharing.

Finally, some long-awaited changes are coming to WhatsApp

Previously, the only method to enhance privacy during your conversations was by setting disappearing messages for a specific duration. However, WhatsApp’s recent iOS beta (version 25.10.10.70) introduces an advanced chat privacy feature taking a significant leap. This update empowers you to secure group chats, ensuring no one can extract the chat history or automatically save shared media on their device. Upon activation, every member in the group receives a notification and Meta AI is deactivated for that specific chat.

To clarify, it’s crucial to keep in mind that users can still opt to save media manually or capture screenshots, making this privacy measure not entirely foolproof. At present, this function is under beta testing and an official launch date hasn’t been announced yet. Interestingly, a comparable update for WhatsApp on Android is also in progress, but even Apple’s TestFlight testers don’t have access to it at the moment. However, it’s anticipated that this update will be made available to iOS beta users within the next few weeks.

Through this latest improvement, WhatsApp is moving forward to enhance chat security, empowering users with increased decision-making authority regarding the distribution of their chats.
