Where Is Serena? She’s Lost, Alone, and On the Run!

In the thrilling continuation of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6, titled ‘Exile’, I found myself grappling with a startling choice. Meanwhile, June and Serena were strategizing their next steps in their fresh environments. A word of caution: major spoilers lie ahead!

In the opening episode of Season 6, Serena and June embarked on their mysterious train journey without disclosing their ultimate destination. However, once fellow passengers learned that they were traveling with Serena Joy, more commonly known as Mrs. Waterford, they grew hostile towards her.

In a roundabout way, June successfully guided Serena to a safe place. However, it appears that Serena now finds herself isolated, far from civilization, accompanied by baby Noah. The twist is that she’s embarking on a harrowing journey similar to those many Handmaids have faced before.

In the thrilling world of Hulu’s series, I find myself keeping tabs on several key players. High Commander Wharton is watching over Nick closely, while Tuello seems eager to team up with Mayday. Meanwhile, Luke remains locked up in Canada. As for June, her long journey has led her to Alaska, and there, to my surprise, I came face-to-face with a familiar figure – my mom, Holly.

Where is Serena?

Serena manages to maintain her balance after tripping into a secluded, faith-based community for women and children, located in Canada. This place warmly accepts both Serena and Noah, providing them with shelter whenever they require it. The leader of this commune, Abigail, enquires about Serena’s identity, to which she responds falsely, introducing herself as “Rachel.

In Alaska, June and Holly meet up, an encounter that understandably leaves June feeling quite overwhelmed. June queries about Holly’s situation, to which she responds that Gilead authorities forcibly took her away and subjected her to a trial.

Despite being exiled to the colonies, she persevered due to her medical expertise. “I was tasked with caring for the aunts and guardians,” she explains. “We were held captive, and many of my friends met their end. Yet, I clung to hope that one day I might be reunited with you.

After making my way through the rugged terrain of Alaska, I finally managed to secure the freedom of Holly’s colony, which had been under the grip of Gilead. Ever since setting foot in this icy wilderness, I’ve been on a relentless quest to gather information about June. It’s no walk in the park, considering that Gilead has severed Alaska’s connection to the internet and other essential services, leaving us with just one five-minute phone call per week. But I won’t give up. I’ll keep pressing on until I find what I seek.

As much as I had the option to explore other beautiful destinations like Hawaii, my heart was set on remaining in Alaska. The reason being, I longed to witness June and Hannah right here.

June shares the details of the incident involving Hannah: she was abducted, handed over to a Commander and his spouse, and she’s in good health. “I’ve made every effort to rescue her,” she explains. “The last time I saw her, mom, she didn’t recognize me.

June gets upset, and Holly’s there to comfort her. “Oh you are tough, and it’s not over.”

Later on, they reach out to Moira, who is currently with Luke and Rita. They are elated because Holly is alive and in June’s care. This moment serves as a testament to the fact that even amidst dire circumstances, they discover pockets of happiness and cling to them fiercely.

Following their greeting, Luke shares with June the predicament he’s facing: there’s uncertainty whether his case will be dropped in Canada, and he’s currently awaiting a court hearing for more information.

It’s implied that just beforehand, Luke and Moira had made a decision to assist Tuello and Mayday in their alliance against Gilead, which June was not aware of when she agreed to phone Luke the following week.

Tuello and Nick have a tense exchange

In Season 6 Episode 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, the scene shifts to the boundary of Gilead, where Tuello secretly connects with Nick. He assures Nick that June and Nichole are secure in Alaska, then gives him an encrypted mobile device along with patrol schedules for Gilead’s forces in No Man’s Land.

As a follower, I can’t help but wonder why the U.S. military requires such specific details, it seems suspicious if only Mayday is involved. However, Tuello feigns ignorance, asking, “Who’s Mayday?” Yet, I merely smile at his query, keeping my suspicions hidden for now.

He points out that the individuals you encountered were part of a paramilitary group, and he clarifies that Mayday recruits aren’t professionally trained. To this, Tuello responds by expressing his belief in personal liberty and his desire to reclaim their nation.

As a gamer, I expressed my doubts about our chances, questioning when we’d had enough losses. But Tuello responded, “Only when there are no more fighters left.

The text indicates that it’s been two months since we last saw them, and both June and Serena are thriving at their separate sanctuaries. While tending to the garden, Serena reflects on her past, recollecting events leading up to the Gilead rebellion.

During a memory scene, she enjoys moments with her father, who seems to be in the initial phase of Parkinson’s. With great enthusiasm, she shares news of her book tour, expressing that the public is eager for transformation.

He stands by her and shares her sentiment that they’re currently facing difficult circumstances, which implies he may influence her perspectives. As they stroll off together, she confides in him about a new man she’s dating: Fred Waterford.

Currently, the story transitions to New Bethlehem, where High Commander Wharton and Nick are engaged in conversation. Wharton emphasizes that Nick needs to take things seriously, prioritize Rose, and set a positive example for their upcoming baby boy.

“Make good choices, son,” he tells Nick. “That’s all you have to do. You have so much potential.”

After Wharton departs, Nick retrieves the USB stick that Tuello had given him and tosses it into the flames. His choice is clear. He remains loyal to Gilead.

Old with the old, in with the New Bethlehem

In Alaska, June makes an attempt to contact Luke over the phone. After leaving a message, it’s been several weeks and she hasn’t received any response back from him yet.

In Canada, things seem less troubling for Serena, but Abigail still gives her a stern reprimand, disclosing that she’s aware of Serena’s actions because she had actually read her book.

Abigail queries Serena about her thoughts on the actions she’s taken, and if those deeds were indeed carried out purely for the sake of serving God.

Ultimately, Serena concedes, “I made a mistake,” to which Abigail responds, “Now is the time for you to correct it. You’re aware that he’s observing.

This recollection brings Serena back to thoughts about her father, albeit a memory from somewhat later on. Prior to the establishment of Gilead, June’s father was confined to a wheelchair and could no longer speak.

Serena informs him that the world will soon transform into a paradise similar to the “Eden-like garden” he’ve been longing for.

Interrupted along her nostalgic journey, Serena encounters Commander Lawrence and his newlywed spouse, Naomi (formerly Mrs. Putnam), at the commune. Lawrence requests Serena’s return to take charge of New Bethlehem once more.

She’s indifferent, regardless of how liberal the situation may be. “I sense a divine presence,” she declares. When his tactics fail, Lawrence intensifies, telling Serena, “Eyes have a way of knowing one’s location. It’s just a matter of time before the Wheelers figure it out too.

Should the Wheelers manage to overtake Serena, it’s likely they will seize Noah from her, possibly leading to her imprisonment or being placed under house arrest.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Episode 2 ends with June and Serena on new paths

The camera transitions to Alaska, as June converses over the phone with Tuello. Simultaneously, she starts gathering her belongings while informing Holly about the current situation. Meanwhile, Moira and Luke find themselves stranded in No Man’s Land, having stepped up to aid Mayday.

The American Embassy plans to send June abroad, but Holly warns that it’s unsafe. It seems June has decided it’s time to reveal the truth about Nick to her mother.

When Holly implores her not to leave, warning it’s a trap, June clarifies that Nick is different from such behavior. However, Holly responds by saying “They’re all like that.” She labels them as “monstrous”.

In the end, they have a major argument, leading to June expressing accusations towards Holly about leaving her. This remark immediately brings remorse upon her lips. Following some time apart to calm down, they eventually engage in a conversation, during which June apologizes for the words she used.

Holly consents to going assist Luke and Moira, however, she requests that June stays behind to look after Nichole. June complies, but prior to departing, she informs her mother that Nichole’s true name is Holly. This revelation leaves her moved.

At their commune, everyone is enjoying dinner when Serena stands up and shares that she’s leaving for New Bethlehem with Noah. She thanks the group warmly but mentions that God has a new purpose for her. “The world is fractured,” she explains, “and I feel a call to mend it.

Serena needs to be careful – we all know what happens when her ego takes over.

The episode concludes with Serena and June parting ways towards their different locations. Upon her arrival, June encounters a band of freedom fighters inside a warehouse situated close to the border.
