Switch 2 Will Sell Fewer Systems Than Previously Thought Due To Tariffs, Analyst Says

According to DFC Intelligence, their revised prediction for the global sales of the Switch 2 in 2025 has been reduced from 17 million units to 15 million units, primarily due to concerns over pricing related to tariffs. Despite this downgrade, the Switch 2 is still expected to be the fastest-selling console system ever in 2025, as stated by DFC Intelligence.

Initially, the original Nintendo Switch, similar to the Wii and PS4, took over a year to sell 15 million units. However, analysts at DFC predict that the Switch 2 could achieve this milestone within just 7 months from its launch on June 5, 2022, up until the end of 2025.

DFC said its downgraded forecast is tied to “supply and pricing.”

Due to potential tariffs causing unpredictable costs, Nintendo might decide to reduce the amount they produce. If the costs rise significantly because of tariffs, many potential customers may postpone their purchases until the prices decrease.” – DFC.

As of now, there hasn’t been an official statement from Nintendo regarding sales forecasts for the Switch 2. Further details are anticipated in May, during their upcoming earnings presentation, where they will discuss the console and provide insights on Nintendo’s overall business strategy to analysts and investors.

According to DFC, they felt reassured when Nintendo disclosed the $450 cost for the upcoming Switch 2, as there were concerns that the console could have been priced at $500 or even higher due to economic conditions. They considered the $450 price as a “good deal” for the Switch 2. However, after Nintendo postponed pre-orders for the Switch 2 because of tariff effects, there are worries that Nintendo might increase the price.

According to certain specialists, the Switch 2 is expected to achieve impressive sales figures from its launch, primarily driven by accumulated demand and the tendency of early adopters to prioritize having the latest gadgets over considering their prices.

DFC said on a longer-term outlook, the upper limit for Switch 2 sales is “enormous.”

According to DFC, the Switch 2 upholds a familiar system and its portability ties in with Nintendo’s long-standing tradition of delivering both handheld and console gaming experiences.

In the years between 2007 and 2009, Nintendo saw a peak in hardware sales with the Wii and DS consoles selling approximately 40 million to 50 million units per year. However, according to DFC Intelligence, the potential market share of the rumored Switch 2 could surpass that of the original Switch, given a longer-term outlook.

The Switch 2 launches on June 5. Keep checking back with TopMob for more.
