If you’re left craving more after watching the final episode of The White Lotus‘ third season, you might find additional content by delving into the discarded footage. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, creator-director Mike White shared that some episodes were initially longer than what was aired, having been trimmed down from about an hour and 40 minutes to the tight hours shown onscreen. Interestingly, the 90-minute finale was originally filmed as two and a half hours, according to star Patrick Schwarzenegger. White admitted, “As a writer, I got a little indulgent.” Fortunately, some of the show’s actors have been disclosing their cut scenes, which include deeper discussions and more fantasies. So, what other moments did we miss out on this season (besides the catchy theme song)? Here, you’ll find all the deleted scenes that the stars of The White Lotus season three have discussed.
Laurie revealed her kid is nonbinary
The revelation that Kate might have initially supported Donald Trump held significant implications. As Carrie Coon shared with Harper’s Bazaar, early in the series, Laurie disclosed that her child identifies as nonbinary. Coon stated, “You see Laurie grappling to explain it to her friends, struggling with using they/them pronouns, and dealing with the language, which was all intriguing.” This made Kate’s discussion about Trump “far more controversial and personally hurtful to Laurie,” according to Coon. However, White ultimately chose to eliminate the scene from the final edit because it was deemed “too political, too extreme, or too distracting,” as Coon explained to the Hollywood Reporter. White further clarified to the Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t want this detail to “dominate” his narrative. He explained, “It felt appropriate in March of last year. Now, there’s a change in atmosphere.
Kate had an “insane dream sequence”
Leslie Bibb shared with the Hollywood Reporter details about a surreal scene involving Kate, which was ultimately cut from post-production. She described it as “Kate having this mind-blowing dream sequence with ladyboys and ping-pong, everything glowing.” It had an eerie vibe reminiscent of “The Shining,” she added. The question arises if this scene could have led to Kate leaving the White Lotus resort with altered perspectives or beliefs? Alas, we can only speculate about such a scenario.
Jaclyn had more to prove at the club
In the scene at the club where Jaclyn danced with Russian men, it turned out that the women she had been looking at earlier played a more significant part. As Michelle Monaghan shared with Bustle, these same women had noticed their group of friends at the bar earlier, when they appeared disheveled due to getting wet on the street. They were seen mocking them by pointing fingers and laughing. Hearing this, Jaclyn decided, “That’s not going to happen! We’re heading downstairs.
Saxon had a bigger final moment with Chelsea
During the production, the scene where Saxon emotionally watched Chelsea meeting Rick on the beach carried more impact. As Arnie Schwarzenegger explained to Variety, an earlier version of the scene was more intense, with Saxon being overly affectionate towards the girls. However, White felt this wasn’t fitting. “He didn’t want a significant transformation for Saxon at that time – just a subtle moment and a lingering gaze as I watch her walk away into the distance,” Schwarzenegger added.
Lochlan talked to his dad about tsunamis
Indeed, we didn’t delve deeper into the topic of tsunamis. Sam Nivola revealed that during a longer discussion between Tim Ratliff and Lochlan on living without money, Jason Isaacs’s character questioned Lochlan about the book he was reading. Nivola stated to Deadline, “I said, ‘I’m reading this book about tsunamis, and over 300,000 people died.’ How can one find purpose in life when everything can suddenly change like that? I believe that was an interesting way of expressing the turmoil his character was experiencing.” However, this metaphor seemed to go over Tim’s head since he was preoccupied with his own thoughts. Nivola added, “And then Timothy said something about money not mattering. I replied, ‘I don’t see how that connects to what I just said, and it seems like he’s only thinking about his own concerns.’
And at one point, Lochlan was in a body bag
However, Nivola shared an interesting detail about his character’s experience. In a scene where he accidentally concocted a “suicide-fruit” smoothie, he had a fleeting desire to escape the show’s famous body bags. He described this as terrifying because he was enclosed in a body bag with no air and had to struggle to unzip himself. He shared this experience with Deadline.
