Comcast Hires Apple, Expedia and DirecTV Alum Jon Gieselman to Lead U.S. Residential Business

Comcast appointed Jon Gieselman, a former competitor during his tenure at DirecTV, to the newly established position of Chief Growth Officer within the residential divisions of their Connectivity & Platforms sector.

As a movie buff, I’m excited to step up as the guide for the teams handling Comcast’s domestic residential ventures, encompassing product development and the strategic branding of Xfinity across TV, broadband, and wireless. This role also includes overseeing sales, marketing, acquisition, retention, and base management. I’ll be reporting directly to Steve Croney, who’s now the COO of Comcast’s Connectivity & Platforms division, a powerhouse that serves more than 64 million homes and businesses in the U.S.

Gieselman begins work with Comcast on the 28th of April. His family, including his wife, is moving from San Francisco to Philadelphia.

More recently, Gieselman held the position of president for Expedia Brands, managing all global consumer-facing businesses until his departure in May 2024. Prior to this role, he spent five years at Apple as the VP of services marketing, handling the marketing for various subscription services such as Apple TV+, Music, the App Store, Fitness+, News+, Arcade and Apple Card. Gieselman also worked as the SVP of marketing at DirecTV for a decade during its period of highest consumer and product relevance, as stated by Comcast upon his hiring.

Croney declared, “Jon possesses an innovative and transformative leadership style that will significantly impact our product and expansion plans.” He boasts extensive experience overseeing top-tier brands in fiercely competitive industries, making him an ideal fit for our team. In his previous roles at DirecTV and Expedia Group as well as Apple, Jon has consistently crafted branding and marketing strategies that foster customer loyalty and yield impressive outcomes.

Gieselman, as mentioned by Comcast, expressed, “I’ve enjoyed competing in this field for more than a decade, and now I can only tell my friends and ex-colleagues – watch out, we’re on our way!

Gieselman obtained his Bachelor’s degree in English from Boston College, and he also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in strategy and marketing from St. John Fisher University.
