‘Peaches Goes Bananas,’ Marie Losier’s Documentary About Feminist Queer Trailblazer, Bought for North America

Film Movement gains control over the distribution rights for “Peaches Goes Bananas,” a documentary by Marie Losier that focuses on the groundbreaking feminist and queer figure, musician, and producer famously recognized as Peaches.

The film is globally distributed by Best Friend Forever, and it had its world premiere during the Venice Days side event, which takes place concurrently with the main film festival.

The film, “Film Movement,” is set to hit theaters first, then it will become available on various digital platforms and for home viewing.

The film presents Peaches, otherwise known as Merrill Nisker, highlighting her performances, along with her relationship with her sister Suri and the way she creates art.

The documentary features Peaches (Merrill Nisker), displaying her live shows, as well as delving into her connection with her sister Suri and her artistic methodology.

Losier is renowned for directing acclaimed documentaries such as “The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye,” which won the Teddy Award at the Berlinale in 2011, “Cassandro El Exotico!”, victorious in the Cannes ACID section in 2018, and “Felix in Wonderland”, debuted at Locarno in 2019. Her work was also honored with a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2018, where all her films were added to the museum’s collection; as well as at the Jeu de Paume, Museum of Contemporary Art in Paris the following year.

Following the release of Marie’s remarkable film ‘Cassandro the Exotico,’ there was great anticipation about whose story she would portray next,” said Michael Rosenberg, president of Film Movement, who made this announcement in collaboration with Martin Gondre at Best Friends Forever. “As soon as we watched ‘Peaches Goes Bananas,’ we were captivated by her unique depiction of a genuine queer icon and believe that it will strike a chord with audiences throughout North America,” he concluded.

The movie titled “Peaches Goes Bananas” was created by Carole Chassaing at Tamara Films (known for “Cassandro El Exotico!”) and a team including Sébastien Andres and Alice Lemaire at Michigan Films (responsible for “The Damned” and “It’s Raining in the House”). This production will be distributed in France by Norte Distribution, and in Belgium by Galeries Distribution.

Film Movement’s latest acquisitions feature an array of critically acclaimed films: “Julie Keeps Quiet,” Belgium’s contender for the Best International Film Oscar; “An Unfinished Film,” a Golden Horse Film Festival top prize-winner directed by Lou Ye, and “My Sunshine,” a poignant drama from Hiroshi Okuyama, screened at Cannes Un Certain Regard.
