Renowned director José Pozo, most recognized for creating renowned Spanish animated hits like “El Cid” and “Donkey Xote,” is venturing into uncharted territory with “Skye.” This is a bold, live-action road trip film that challenges the boundaries between fictional narratives and real life.

“In a unique, self-produced approach, ‘Skye’ documents the odyssey of Isolde, a woman experiencing personal strife, as she treks from Andorra to the isolated Isle of Skye in an attempt to reconnect with her former companion.

In a rented camper van and accompanied only by her baby, she embarks on a journey that confronts both the hurdles of the road and the lingering mysteries of her past. The narrative unfolds naturally, influenced by actual landscapes, spontaneous interactions, and an unfiltered sincerity seldom found in modern-day films.

The filmmaker, who was responsible for penning the screenplay, directing, cinematography, and sound recording, referred to the production process as a “genuine adventure, encompassing both a physical and emotional journey.” Adding a personal touch, his wife Elisabet Terri and their daughter Danna were part of the cast in this film.

Pozo’s distinctive method presented fresh hurdles for the filmmaker. He often found himself shooting with the camera ready at all times. At times, he filmed using one arm while cradling our daughter in the other arm. Lights and elaborate setups were not his preference; instead, he sought authenticity, even if it meant enduring fatigue, as he shared.

Joining Terri on screen will be Alberto Ammann, a talented actor of Argentine-Spanish descent who has starred in “Celda 211” and “Narcos,” as well as Elisabeth Larena, known for her role in “Eres tú.” Additionally, the cast includes Tom Medcalf and Jennifer Carss, both distinguished British actors.

Skye was birthed out of what Pozo terms a “deep grief,” yet he highlights the movie’s all-encompassing theme. He explains, “It’s not a film that centers on tragedy, but rather it explores healing, about rekindling connections with life in unforeseen manners.

Over a period of 30 days, the production journeyed through over 3,100 miles, capturing landscapes in Andorra, France, England, and Scotland as its backdrop. The Isle of Skye, known for its breathtaking cliffs and mist-shrouded mountains, takes center stage. Famous sites such as the Quiraing, mountain range, Old Man of Storr rock formation, and Portree contribute to the film’s rich storyline and offer a visual symphony.

This project is a joint production by Spain’s Imminent Productions, David Ortiz from Andorra’s Arlong Productions, and Ammann, with backing from Andorra Business. Tindaya Pictures is responsible for sales. The director, Pozo, whose recent short film “Plastic Killer” made it to the Oscar 2023 shortlist, continues his development as a versatile storyteller with “Skye”, daringly pushing boundaries and defying traditional norms.
