Summary
- The Duskbloods director Hidetaka Miyazaki has addressed concerns over FromSoftware’s recent shift into multiplayer games.
- In a new interview, Miyazaki says that FroMSoftware is still going to “actively develop single-player-focused games” that will “embrace our more traditional style”.
One intriguing revelation from this week’s Nintendo Direct was the announcement of The Duskbloods, an unexpected new IP from FromSoftware to be exclusive on a Nintendo console. Many were initially thrilled upon its unveiling, but interest waned when it was disclosed that The Duskbloods is primarily a Player-vs-Player-vs-Environment (PvPvE) game with a multiplayer emphasis.
With Elden Ring: Nightreign arriving next month and The Duskbloods slated for 2026, there’s been growing apprehension about FromSoftware’s shift towards multiplayer games, leaving fans wondering if they’ll ever get another single-player game. Fortunately, Hidetaka Miyazaki has eased these concerns in a recent interview.
FromSoftware Still Intends To “Actively Develop” Single Player Games, Says Miyazaki

As a passionate gamer myself, I can share some insights from a recent blog post by Miyazaki (thanks to Rock, Paper, Shotgun for that). In this post, he was asked about his interest in creating a PvPvE game, and he expressed that he’s been fortunate to explore a wide variety of game design concepts due to the genre. So essentially, he’s been given the freedom to experiment with many different ideas within the realm of gaming.
fundamentally, our game is designed for online multiplayer, however, this doesn’t imply that we as a company are planning to concentrate solely on multiplayer games in the future. Instead, we will be focusing on developing titles that may include multiplayer aspects.
Later on, without any prompting, he also reassures those concerned about FromSoftware’s transition to multiplayer. He clarifies that while The Duskbloods is a multiplayer game, they are still committed to creating and actively developing single-player games that will maintain their traditional style.
Relax, everyone who’s been concerned about FromSoftware focusing excessively on live-service games. It appears that Elden Ring: Nightreign could be smaller, experimental titles, while the next major FromSoftware project might lean more towards traditional gameplay. Given their impressive pace of production, almost annually since 2015, we probably won’t have to wait long for another single-player FromSoft game.
