Approximately three years ago, Sony acknowledged rumors of a Netflix TV series inspired by Horizon Zero Dawn. Yet, it appears that the live-action Horizon show was apparently terminated last year. Recently, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, provided insight into why the series didn’t proceed.
Qizilbash explained to Variety that the Horizon series wasn’t developing creatively in a manner they desired, prompting Sony to reconsider it as a film possibility instead of a TV production. However, Qizilbash didn’t address the workplace misconduct accusations against Steve Blackman, the showrunner of Horizon, which surfaced during his tenure on The Umbrella Academy. Blackman refuted any claims of wrongdoing, and news about the future of Horizon soon followed.
This year, Sony announced plans to produce a Horizon Zero Dawn movie and a Helldivers adaptation. As of now, neither project has been assigned a creative team or actors, nor do they have confirmed release dates. Previously, Sony has developed other films based on PlayStation games, such as Uncharted and the upcoming Until Dawn movie.
Ashly Burch, the voice actor behind Horizon’s protagonist Aloy, recently reacted to a video featuring an AI version of her character engaging in conversation with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Sharwin Raghoebardajal. Burch expressed concern about the future of game performance as an artistic medium, given the ongoing strike by voiceover actors at many major video game publishers.
