It’s well-known now that YouTuber appearances are part of the new movie for Minecraft fans, but what makes Mumbo Jumbo stand out is the unique reason he wanted to take part.

The upcoming Minecraft movie boasts an impressive lineup of popular actors, led by Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, and Jennifer Coolidge. In addition, five well-known YouTube personalities will also be featured: DanTDM, Aphmau, LDShadowLady, Valkyrae, and Mumbo Jumbo.

Following the appearance of a team photo from the set on Reddit, it’s no longer a hidden fact, but for one member, there seems to be a deeper story behind the scenes.

Initially, Mumbo Jumbo was the one invited to join the team, and his brief appearance in the movie surpassed expectations. This unexpectedly extended scene was part of a unique and significant plan.

Mumbo Jumbo has Napoleon Dynamite to thank for his success

In conversation with TopMob, director Jared Hess and producer Torfi Ólafsson shared that Mumbo Jumbo expressed interest in joining A Minecraft Movie, as his aspiration to become a filmmaker stemmed from Hess’ most celebrated work – Napoleon Dynamite.

If you’re not among those who’ve been chanting “Eat the food, Tina!” as if it were a mantra, then let me introduce you to Napoleon Dynamite – a movie about an awkward teen gamer like myself, who embarks on an unusual quest to help his new buddy clinch the school presidency. Oh, and did I mention he navigates through a series of family escapades that would make any normal family seem ordinary?

Ólafsson stated that we contacted him and inquired if he wished to assist, and he highly commended Napoleon Dynamite as the inspiration behind his decision to pursue filmmaking.

Apart from his acting roles, Mumbo Jumbo also took charge of designing the Redstone Mine, which includes many of the traps shown in scenes set there.

Initially, Olafsson was hesitant to reveal something because he feared people might get irritated. So, he suggested, “Perhaps you could assemble a few Redstone traps.” The next day, an influx of incredible machines arrived in our inbox, but we were only able to utilize a few of them.

Hess concurred, acknowledging that he is among the top-tier minds in Redstone technology globally. During our brainstorming sessions for creating traps, he proved to be incredibly helpful, contributing numerous brilliant ideas.

Last year, it became known that Mumbo Jumbo ranked as the second wealthiest Minecraft content creator globally, amassing a total income of approximately £3.4 million from his YouTube channel. This equates to around £1600 per video he posts. With over 9.5 million subscribers, it’s not unusual to anticipate him sharing updates about a potential movie project.

Currently playing in theaters, there’s a movie based on Minecraft. If you’re hungry for more gaming-related updates, don’t miss the latest news on The Last of Us Season 2 and the upcoming Horizon series on television.
