Tibia creators took over The Settlers Online. CipSoft sees huge potential in special version of the strategy

CipSoft, recognized for its creation of Tibia, has recently caught everyone off guard with the news that they will be assuming control over The Settlers Online, a browser game which is a derivative of the widely acclaimed economic strategy series.

Besides buying the game, the company also acquired the entire development team that previously worked at Blue Byte studio on The Settlers Online. This team is now continuing their work on the game’s development within a newly established division of CipSoft, situated in the German city of DĆ¼sseldorf.

Commenting on this purchase, CipSoft posted the following statement:

It’s been molded by players who invest significantly in it, both time and effort wise, which mirrors the fervor and commitment you, Tibians, have consistently demonstrated. We deeply appreciate this. Caring for two such steadfast communities is not something we take lightly.

It is clear that these changes will likely benefit “The Settlers Online” significantly, as Ubisoft, its current owner, is experiencing a major restructuring. Key brands, excluding “The Settlers”, are being moved to a new company, causing speculation that the older publisher’s structure may not prioritize series like “The Settlers” going forward.

In situations like these, it seems unlikely that Ubisoft would give significant resources to a 15-year-old online game. On the other hand, CipSoft can concentrate on the further development of this particular game instead.
