Ice Cube Closes Deal for New ‘Friday’ Movie at Warner Bros. and New Line

Ice Cube has come to an agreement to pen and appear in a fresh “Friday” film for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. The upcoming project, named “Last Friday,” will serve as the fourth installment of the comedic series – being the first since 2002’s “Friday After Next.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed by New Line’s president and Chief Creative Officer Richard Brener that a deal has been finalized with Ice Cube for the development of “Last Friday”. This information has also been corroborated by EbMaster.

Ice Cube has been vocal about his intentions to produce another “Friday” film, but a recent agreement with Warner Bros. to both star in and direct the project signifies a major progression. In June 2024, the musician-actor disclosed that there was momentum for “Last Friday” at the studio, discussing this with Flavor Flav on his SiriusXM show “Flavor of the Week.” Michael De Luca, who became co-chief of the studio in 2022 alongside Pamela Abdy, has been instrumental in driving this project forward within the studio’s film division.

Mike De Luca, a familiar face from New Line Cinema during Ice Cube’s early days, has taken over leadership roles. This is the same Mike De Luca who worked with Ice Cube on films like ‘Friday’, ‘The Players Club’, and ‘All About the Benjamins.’ As Ice Cube stated earlier, this was Mike De Luca.

Ice Cube played the lead role in each installment of the “Friday” series, which includes “Friday” (1995), “Next Friday” (2000) and “Friday After Next” (2002). He collaborated with DJ Pooh on writing the initial movie, while penning both sequels by himself. The entire “Friday” series was initially developed under New Line Cinema, which was overseen by De Luca during the production of the original trilogy. Later, Warner Bros. acquired New Line, gaining ownership of the rights to the “Friday” franchise.
