At long last, Bravely Default is set to leave its confines on the Nintendo 3DS. An enhanced, high-definition remake of this classic turn-based JRPG is slated for release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, debuting alongside the console at launch.
Titled “Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster,” this game boasts improved graphics, an updated user interface, enhanced online capabilities, practical additions like speeding up battles, and two fresh minigames utilizing the Switch 2’s Joy-Con 2 mouse function, as revealed in the Nintendo Direct for the Switch 2. The release date for Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster and the Switch 2 is set for June 5.
In a nod to classic Final Fantasy games, Bravely Default follows the journey of a team of Light Warriors who aim to vanquish darkness and rejuvenate the four crystals that sustain harmony in the world of Luxendarc. The game offers turn-based battles and a job system that allows players to blend diverse jobs and skills to build custom party lineups. The game’s title is derived from its battle mechanics, as Brave Points can be utilized to boost actions per turn. Players also have the option to “Default” to accumulate actions and reinforce their defenses.
For the very first time, Bravely Default is set to debut on contemporary gaming systems, having initially launched for the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012. A subsequent game, Bravely Second, followed for the 3DS in 2016. The latest addition to the series, somewhat perplexingly named Bravely Default 2, was unveiled on the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
One of the games unveiled for release on the upgraded Switch 2 includes Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Additionally, Nintendo announced Mario Kart World, a fresh Donkey Kong 3D platformer, a follow-up to Kirby Air Ride, and an exclusive new game from From Software for the Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods.
