Terrifier Star’s Mickey Mouse Prank Left Screamboat Cast in Shock

As David Howard Thornton, I’m known for my side-splitting antics on the set of the Terrifier movies, and it seems Screamboat is no exception! Stepping into the shoes of Steamboat Willie in the latest horror flick offered me the golden chance to pull off a prank straight out of Mickey Mouse‘s playbook.

In simpler terms, Thornton is renowned for his role as Art the Clown in Damien Leone’s Terrifier movies. However, he’s moving away from the bald cap and assuming a pair of large ears for the Disney-inspired comedy horror, Screamboat. This upcoming film revolves around a group of New Yorkers who find themselves in distress as they encounter Steamboat Willie on a ferry returning to Staten Island.

Currently, you might be pondering why Disney isn’t being overwhelmed with lawsuits given their history. However, by January 2024, Steamboat Willie – the groundbreaking 1928 cartoon that debuted Mickey Mouse for the first time – will enter the public domain, potentially explaining this situation.

In this version of the mouse, anything goes, which led to the creation of Screamboat. Prior to its launch, we had a chance to interview Thornton and ask him if he played any tricks, similar to Art the Clown.

David Howard Thornton pulled Mickey Mouse prank on Screamboat set

Thornton shared with us that he may not have scared Steven, the director of Screamboat, but he certainly pulled off a great prank on him one time.

I collaborated with my makeup artist as she happened to have some Milk Duds in the dressing room one day which she had purchased. I remarked, “Wow, they resemble mouse droppings,” and then I thought, “I’ve got an idea.

In this scenario, I shared the joke with her, allowing her to pretend to help me with my makeup. Instead, she handed me a bag of Milk Duds. I received the candies and followed Steven’s instructions.

At this moment, Thornton feigned as if he were struggling, and accidentally let the candies fall onto the floor behind him. He then jokingly commented, “It appeared as though I was having an accident everywhere.

As a fan, I can’t help but share that the hilarious antic struck a chord with us all just when we needed it most. It was like a breath of fresh air during an otherwise intense moment in the day, as Thornton himself put it.

In a tight spot and seeking some relief from the pressure, I felt compelled to lighten the mood. What could be more effective than a humorous reference to a topic like… toilet humor?

With time running out and the atmosphere becoming tense, I knew we needed a quick laugh. So, in an attempt to ease the tension, I opted for a bit of lighthearted bathroom humor.

Back when Terrifier 3 hit theaters last year, I had a run-in with Thornton that wasn’t my first encounter with his pranks. In our chat before the release, actress Lauren LaVera from TopMob revealed her own experience of meeting him as Art the Clown for the first time – quite an unforgettable moment for her!

On the first day of filming Terrifier 2, it seemed like I collaborated with Dave for the first time that day, and he gave me quite a startle when he suddenly appeared from behind, she shared.

I was having my hair and make-up styled in a tiny, almost cramped space. There was a small door with a peephole, and he stood there, staring in with an intensely scary expression on his face.

I was chatting with the ladies in the room who were styling my hair and makeup when suddenly, I let out a startled yelp. It was quite a jump-inducing moment! And there he was, chuckling mischievously like a pesky little imp. (Laughs.) Quite an unexpected greeting for the new franchise, isn’t it?

On April 2, 2025, the movie Screamboat premiered in U.S. theaters, and it was also released exclusively in the UK at Vue cinemas on the same day.
