Over 10 years have elapsed since the last primary Silent Hill installment (excluding Bloober Team’s excellent remake of Silent Hill 2 in 2024). Finally, a fresh chapter for this series is coming, titled Silent F. This latest entry originates from a Japanese studio staffed by veteran survival-horror professionals and marks the first time the Silent Hill series departs from the haunting streets of Maine, USA, to instead embark on a chilling journey through Japan. When will Silent Hill F be released?
As of now, there hasn’t been a definitive launch date announced for Silent Hill F. However, it can be preordered in both digital and physical versions, which often indicates that a release is imminent. It’s quite possible that the game could come out towards the end of 2025.
Preorder Silent Hill F
As of now, neither the preorder bonuses nor the special editions for Silent Hill F have been disclosed, however, you can already pre-order the standard version of the game at a price of $70.
Silent Hill F platforms
With regards to its release, Konami has confirmed that the upcoming Silent Hill F will be playable on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and possibly other platforms as well, without any exclusive time-limitations, unlike the remake of Silent Hill 2. Given this information, it’s likely that Silent Hill F will debut simultaneously across all major platforms, with the exception of Nintendo Switch, which appears to struggle with handling current-generation games over time. As for whether Silent Hill F will be available on the upcoming Switch 2 console, we don’t have that information yet, but given its planned release this year, there’s a chance it could bring a frightening experience our way.
Silent Hill F dev team
Silent Hill F is developed by Neobards Entertainment, a team that has primarily served as support in previous projects. They have contributed to numerous Capcom games such as Resident Evil 2, 3, 7, ReVerse (the multiplayer mode associated with Resident Evil Village), and other titles like Marvel’s Avengers and No Straight Roads.
Despite focusing on horror games in their previous collection, there’s good cause to think they’re now ready for a bigger challenge – spearheading the development of a significant sequel. The narrative for this game will be crafted by renowned Japanese author Ryukishi07, creator of the highly praised When They Cry visual novel series. Furthermore, Motoi Okamoto, who spent nearly a decade at Nintendo from 1998 to 2007, has been appointed as the project’s producer.

The initial trailer for Silent Hill I was quite enjoyable for fans who appreciate the series’ knack for mystery and oddity. In the video below, it’s worth noting that no game footage is used, instead depicting a Japanese village shrouded in fog. Subsequently, a figure resembling a student stands by a roadside monument. As the trailer shifts between various sequences, it appears to transform into what could be the Otherworld, a distorted counterpart of the safer world that characters in Silent Hill games typically begin their journeys in.
In the rhythm of piano keys echoing through decaying landscapes, I find myself, a gamer navigating this surreal world, fleeing an unseen danger. Suddenly, the scene shifts to another character, possibly familiar yet distinct, gliding over tranquil, misty waters on a vibrant floral raft that sprouts from her head. This flower-crowned figure bears a chilling resemblance to Midsommar’s tragic finale, but the horror intensifies when she reveals her face detaching from her skull like a worn-out sticker. Quite unsettling, indeed.
After quite some time, there was finally an opportunity to see a new perspective on the game, which happened in March 2025. The sneak peek into the game highlighted further aspects of its Japanese backdrop, the main character, and even teased some of the monsters players might run into during their journey.

Silent Hill F story, setting, and characters
To date, here’s what we understand about Silent Hill F: The story unfolds in the Japanese town of Ebisugaoka during the 1960s, with high school student Hinako Shimizu serving as the main character. At first, life in Ebisugaoka, which is modeled after the real-life Kanayama town in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, seems normal. However, this tranquility is disrupted when a mysterious fog rolls in, bringing monstrous creatures and body-altering horror onto the streets. The teaser trailer released in March 2025 offers a glimpse into the terrors Hinako will face, as well as the sanctuaries or shrines that seem to be havens where one can rest.
The Silent Hill series explores psychological distress, as suggested by its mysterious narration about camaraderie and deceit in the trailer. It’s important to mention that when Silent Hill F launches, it will tackle sensitive and potentially disturbing themes. Konami has already warned players about these topics, which include gender bias, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced illusions, torture, and intense violence.
Konami stated that this game is set in 1960s Japan and showcases customs and culture from that era, but these representations don’t reflect the views of the developers or anyone else. They advise players to stop if they ever feel uncomfortable during gameplay and confide in someone reliable.
Silent Hill F gameplay
So far, there haven’t been detailed gameplay demonstrations for Silent Hill F. However, what we do know is that the game will incorporate aspects cherished by fans of the series, such as survival horror, puzzles, and a hint of combat. This combat element might take the form of fight-or-flight situations with some of the monstrous entities shown thus far.
Hinako Shimizu was leading a typical teenage life, but all of that changed when her town was enveloped in an eerie fog and started transforming into something grotesque. As she navigates through a once familiar place now twisted beyond recognition, Hinako encounters puzzles to solve, faces strange adversaries, and does whatever it takes to survive. Ultimately, she’ll be confronted with a heart-wrenching decision she must make – a choice that is both lovely and terrifying.
In conversation with IGN, character and creature designer Kera hinted at monstrous and location designs that will highlight a captivating grotesquery in the game. Kera expressed her affection for the Silent Hill series, stating it has significantly impacted her work. Specifically, she finds herself frequently reminiscing about Silent Hill 2, its wall graffiti, music, and creature designs. When designing for Silent Hill F and setting it in Japan, they aimed to create something subtly distinct, requiring careful thought on how to achieve that unique ambiance.
Designing the monsters for this project proved to be particularly challenging. I had to balance the need to stay true to the Silent Hill series, while also introducing something fresh and unique. It may not have the same grimy, blood-streaked backdrops as before, but I genuinely believe you’ll appreciate our new direction and the universe we’ve crafted.
Why is it called Silent Hill F?
It seems unlikely that this project’s peculiar title serves as a temporary label. Instead, it could be linked to sheet music, considering the ‘F’ in the game’s logo mirrors the “forte” symbol, which signifies loud. In musical notation, musicians employ this symbol when they want a specific section to be played loudly. Given the gradual increase in tempo and volume of the piano music featured in the trailer, it’s plausible that the narrative revolves around music or features a musician as a central character. For instance, the girl depicted mourning at the beginning of the trailer could be attending a school for aspiring musicians.
As I navigate through this game world, there appears to be a rhythm or melody at play, but I suspect it’ll take me some time to decipher the notes and make sense of it all.
