‘One Battle After Another’ Trailer: Leonardo DiCaprio Is a Nutty Revolutionary in Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Movie

Last week’s quick sneak peek of Paul Thomas Anderson’s much-awaited new production, “One Battle After Another,” has been officially followed by a full-length trailer.

For the very first time, Leonardo DiCaprio is appearing in a movie directed by Anderson. The cast also features Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle and Chase Infiniti.

Leonardo DiCaprio is making his debut in an Anderson film! The cast also includes stars like Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle and Chase Infiniti.

The title and specific aspects of the plot were kept under wraps until the release of the first teaser, hinting at “One Battle After Another” possibly drawing influence from Thomas Pynchon’s novel “Vineland” from 1990. In this upcoming film, Leonardo DiCaprio portrays Bob Ferguson, a quirky and disheveled revolutionary on a mission to rescue his daughter. The story opens with Bob, wearing a beanie and bathrobe, making an urgent call for help from unidentified rebel associates but slips up with the secret codewords. Del Toro is cast as Bob’s mentor who guides him to overcome fear, even going so far as to push him out of a moving vehicle. The trailer concludes with DiCaprio shouting “Viva la revolución” and him and del Toro readying themselves to confront their adversaries.

Anderson collaborated on the screenplay and co-produced it alongside Sara Murphy and the late Adam Somner. The movie was filmed using VistaVision cameras on 35mm film, with principal photography taking place in California, and additional scenes shot on location in El Paso, Texas.

Initial reports on “EbMaster” hinted that the production cost of “One Battle After Another” could exceed $100 million, and some sources have suggested it might go up to $140 million. If true, this film would be the most expensive production in Anderson’s career.

As a film aficionado, I’m thrilled to share that this role marks my return to the silver screen since Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” in 2023 – a historical drama that garnered 10 Oscar nominations! Paul Thomas Anderson, though yet to claim an Academy Award, has been nominated 11 times throughout his career. Remarkably, “Licorice Pizza” has earned nominations for best picture, best director, and best original screenplay. I was even nominated for my “Boogie Nights” screenplay way back in 1998 – a milestone in my journey!

Warner Bros’ upcoming film, titled ‘One Battle After Another,’ will hit theatres on September 26, also available for Imax screenings.
