Civilization 7 is losing even to Civ 5 on Steam. Devs prepare another patch

As a dedicated fan, it’s clear that both Civilization 6 and Civ 5 have outshone the anticipated Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 in terms of popularity on Steam, right before the unveiling of the next update to the latest iteration of this epic 4X strategy series.

Firaxis Games recently shared insights about the upcoming update for the 7th installment of their game “Civilization” through a new developer blog post, available on YouTube. Check out the video below (accessible via Steam).

As a gamer eagerly anticipating Civ 7, I’m excited about the significant changes coming our way, particularly in terms of user interface. It seems like the developers have been listening to feedback, as they’re addressing some of the most-discussed issues – yes, that includes the settlement renaming feature and the “quick move” function to streamline unit movements. They’re also making it tougher for enemies to catch me off guard with city attacks, and improving game hints to make them clearer and more fitting for the interface design.

In addition to revealing adjustments to the game’s equilibrium, developers are planning to decelerate the gameplay speed significantly. This is primarily achieved by removing civilizations from the game, thereby making it more challenging for players to swiftly progress through the eras and leapfrog over technological advancements in both modern and civic sectors.

Let’s come to an understanding: These adjustments, as well as others, aren’t groundbreaking changes. However, they do satisfy the gamers, and in reality, it’s these minor improvements (and content) that Civilization 7 really lacks.

The latest installment in the series didn’t perform as well as we had hoped for a new game, garnering less than half positive reviews on Steam. This is more something to be ashamed of rather than proud about, considering it represents a significant improvement from February. Interestingly enough, more players have been playing Civilization V than the seventh installment (and even the sixth one; via SteamDB) as well.

In addition, they realized that there were some mistakes in the user interface within the official video (these appear to be editing errors rather than flaws in the actual interface). The update is expected to roll out for the game later today, accompanied by a DLC introducing Bulgaria, Nepal, and Simon Bolivar.
