Sony has made some adjustments to its lineup of future movies. The “Street Fighter” movie adaptation, which was initially scheduled for release on March 20, 2026, has been taken off the schedule and replaced by Tommy Wirkola’s shark thriller, now named “Shiver,” in July 2026. Previously slated for August 2025, “Beneath the Storm” has been moved to an earlier slot.
The classic gaming franchise “Street Fighter,” which Capcom, a Japanese video game developer that introduced the original series in 1987, helped create, will be jointly produced and developed alongside Legendary Entertainment. In 2023, Legendary secured the rights for television and film adaptations of this popular series. As of now, specifics about the movie, including its plot, cast members, director, and screenwriter, remain undisclosed.
Should it be postponed again, this wouldn’t mark the first time “Street Fighter” has graced the big screen. In the past, Universal produced a film adaptation in 1994, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia. Fox followed suit in 2009 with “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li,” starring Kristin Kreuk. Regrettably, both films were met with poor critical and commercial reception.
Initially scheduled for a cinema release on August 1, 2025, the movie “Beneath the Storm,” now titled “Shiver,” has been delayed by nearly a year. The specifics of the storyline are still secret, but it features Phoebe Dynevor (known from “Bridgerton” and “Fair Play”), Whitney Peak (from “Gossip Girl” and “Hocus Pocus 2”), and Djimon Hounsou (in “Rebel Moon” and “A Quiet Place: Day One”). Adam McKay and Kevin Messick are the producers.
Previously, Wirkola has worked on films such as “Spermageddon,” “Violent Night,” “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters,” and “What Happened to Monday.” (The titles have been rephrased for clarity and ease of understanding.)
