On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, the latest Minecraft update – version 1.25.5 – is set to drop, introducing fresh mob types, enhanced sound effects, and intriguing new plant varieties!

If you’re among those who test out new features in a game using its Snapshot function, you might have come across the changes that this update brings.

New Minecraft update features

In this exciting Spring To Life update, I can hardly wait to experience the enhanced distinctiveness among Minecraft biomes! It’s going to be thrilling to encounter new warm and cold mob versions, along with unique sounds and flora that will breathe fresh life into the game when it drops.

Mob variants

Animals such as chickens, pigs, and cows now have multiple types, and will appear only in designated locations. These types are Temperate, Cold, and Warm, each with unique colors and specific biome requirements. By default, Temperate animals will appear where Cold and Warm ones do not. Cold-type animals can be found in chilly environments like the Taiga, Windswept Hills, Snowy Plains, Deep Dark, and The End. On the other hand, Warm-type animals will populate areas that are warm, including the Savanna, Jungle, Badlands, Mangrove Swamps, and various Nether biomes.

In addition to them, other creatures are also receiving focus, as wolves now have six distinct sounds added to their repertoire. Upon spawning, each wolf will be assigned a unique sound variant that it will keep throughout its lifetime. The traditional wolf noises are utilized for the Classic version, and Minecraft is introducing Big, Cute, Puglin, Angry, Grumpy, and Sad variations.

New Minecraft blocks

In addition to managing crowds, Minecraft’s block variety is growing. Bushes will now appear in Plains, Windswept Hills, River, Frozen River, and all Forest biomes. The color of these bushes matches the grass color of the biome they are placed or spawn in. They can be utilized in composters. Applying bone meal to a bush will cause another nearby bush to grow if there’s enough space. You can harvest bushes using any tool with Silk Touch, shears included.

The Cactus Blossom is a fresh type of flower that may produce cacti. It can be positioned on cactus blocks or any block with a top center support. If a cactus stands one or two blocks tall, there’s a 10% probability of a Cactus Blossom blooming instead of the cactus growing taller. For cacti that are three blocks or more in height, the growth chance rises to 25%, but only if there is room on all sides for them to grow. Any tool can excavate it, and it can also be employed to create pink dye.

The eagerly anticipated Firefly Bush is making its way back into Minecraft after a debate over the removal of fireflies from the game due to their potential harm to frogs in real life, and concerns that eating them in-game could pose an issue. Now, the Firefly Bush is being introduced, which will grow in swamps, near rivers, near water in Mangrove Swamps, and seldom in the Badlands. At night, you’ll notice glowing firefly particles up to five blocks from a Firefly Bush. It will create immersive, ambient sounds as long as it’s not obstructed from above during the nighttime hours. Applying bone meal to a Firefly bush will generate a neighboring one if there is enough space. Additionally, it emits a light level of 2 but can be easily destroyed without any specific tool.

In Minecraft, a new element called Leaf Litter is being introduced to enhance the game’s realistic feel. This decorative element can be spotted in forest and wooded badlands landscapes. It functions similarly to petal blocks, allowing up to four pieces to be placed on a single block, making the Leaf Litter denser as more are added per block. Various types of leaves can be smelted to produce Leaf Litter, and it can also serve as fuel for smelting processes. Additionally, it has its own unique block sounds that will make walking through them in the fall particularly enjoyable!

In simpler terms, both types of dry grass – the short and tall varieties – stand at a single block’s height. The short one grows naturally in desert and badlands environments, while the taller version appears more visually striking. You can place either type on sand, terracotta, or dirt blocks, just like you would with dead bushes. To collect these grasses, use shears or any tool with Silk Touch. Applying bone meal to short dry grass will transform it into tall dry grass. Furthermore, sheep can munch on these grasses to help them regrow their wool.

In the birch and ancient birch woodlands, as well as open meadows, you’ll find a unique variety of flowers called Wildflowers. Each block can accommodate up to four Wildflowers, much like other floral decorations. These Wildflowers can be crafted into a vibrant yellow dye.

In simpler terms, “The Test and Test Instance blocks” are specialized components employed during game testing processes, and they’re also included within the actual game itself.

The Blue Egg is a special type of egg that can only be produced by the cold chicken species, and upon hatching, it gives birth to another cold chicken. In contrast, the Brown Egg is associated with the warm chicken variety.

World generation

21.5 update will incorporate fallen trees that alter the tree landscapes throughout the game. Now, you’ll encounter Oak, Spruce, Birch, or Jungle trees lying horizontally on the ground. The Birch trees may come in short or long versions, and all variations can be found anywhere except for the Meadow, Bamboo Jungle, River, Grove, or Flower Forest. Additionally, fallen trees might have mushrooms or vines as decorations.

Sounds

In the game, new audio effects will be introduced where dead bush blocks produce background noises when positioned on top of two blocks that are either terracotta, sand, or red sand blocks in any biome. Additionally, these three types of blocks might emit ambient sounds if they’re surrounded by at least three of them in a cube-like formation with eight blocks between each side, regardless of the biome.

In the upcoming update, here’s what you can expect for Minecraft. Moving forward, there will be an unusual twist on a once harmful mob, known as Happy Ghasts, arriving in the second release of 2025.
