Hulu has given the go-ahead for a drama series produced by Liz Meriwether, with Emmy Rossum serving as executive producer and possibly taking on a leading role.
The unnamed TV show draws loosely on the 1987 film “Black Widow.” As stated in the synopsis, this story revolves around an FBI agent who employs knowledge from a female serial killer’s past to track her down. Reports suggest that if Rossum finalizes her contract, she will portray the role of the FBI agent in the series.
Meriwether takes on both the role of writer and executive producer. Rossum and Sara Moskowitz, under Rossum’s Composition 8 banner, will join as executive producers as well. Ron Bass, renowned for penning the “Black Widow” screenplay, also serves as an executive producer. The production will be handled by 20th Television and Searchlight TV.
In the movie “Black Widow,” character Alexandra Barnes, portrayed by Debra Winger, pursues a ruthless killer, played by Theresa Russell, who marries rich men before eliminating them across various states in the U.S. The film was released by 20th Century Fox and helmed by director Bob Rafelson.
Meriwether returns to Hulu, the platform where she previously produced and directed the successful limited series “The Dropout,” starring Amanda Seyfried. This show, detailing the life of Elizabeth Holmes, the controversial Theranos founder, earned Seyfried an Emmy for best actress in a limited series. Meriwether is famously recognized as the creator of the Fox comedy series “New Girl,” which ran for seven seasons and close to 150 episodes. She also serves as the creator of the forthcoming FX series “Dying for Sex” and previously penned the 2011 film “No Strings Attached.
She is repped by WME and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
Emily Rossum gained significant recognition for her central role in the widely acclaimed Showtime series “Shameless,” where she portrayed Fiona Gallagher across nine out of its eleven seasons. Prior to this, she spearheaded the Peacock limited series “Angelyne” and the Apple TV+ limited series “The Crowded Room,” sharing screen time with Tom Holland. In more recent times, Rossum has ventured into directing, overseeing multiple episodes for “Shameless,” “Animal Kingdom,” and “Modern Love.” Her film credits include appearances in movies such as “Mystic River,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and “A Futile and Stupid Gesture.
She is repped by MGMT Entertainment, WME, Wolf Kasteler Public Relations, and Felker Toczek.
