It’s worth noting that Minecraft is among the most triumphant video games in history, however, it’s crucial to understand that Mojang is unlikely to unveil a “Minecraft 2” in the near future or at any point in time. In response to a recent query about the possibility of a direct sequel, Ingela Garneij, an executive producer on Minecraft Vanilla, shared her insights.
As a devoted fan, I can confirm that when asked about the possibility of an Earth 2 by IGN, Garneij stated unequivocally, “No such thing, my friend. There won’t be a Minecraft 2.”
It shouldn’t come as a shock that we won’t see Minecraft 2 anytime soon, or possibly ever, because Mojang and Microsoft have been consistently stating this fact for years. As a matter of fact, Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson previously mentioned, “While I can’t guarantee that there will never be a Minecraft 2, it won’t happen anytime soon.
Meanwhile, Matt Booty, who works at a higher level at Xbox, views Minecraft not as something that will be replaced with a new version, but rather as a platform that continuously evolves and receives updates over time.
Garneij stated when asked about the future of Minecraft: “We’ve been around for 15 years, and we aim to continue for another 15 years. So, Agnes Larsson, the game director of Minecraft Vanilla, and I collaborate on setting the game’s vision and strategy, focusing on what we can achieve beyond that.
Garneij acknowledged that the outdated technological foundation of Minecraft sometimes hinders their development progress. In simpler terms, he explained that newer games often utilize more advanced software which allows them to operate swiftly, whereas the age and technology of Minecraft pose significant challenges for us.
During the Minecraft Live event over the weekend, Mojang unveiled a major update for Minecraft called “Vibrant Visuals,” which brings substantial changes to the game’s appearance.
Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that a Minecraft film, featuring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, is set to hit theaters on April 4th. Following this, the game will receive Downloadable Content (DLC) inspired by the movie.
