Back in 2008, Robert Kirkman collaborated with MTV on an adaption of Invincible. Unfortunately, this production seems to have slipped into obscurity, known as “lost media,” leaving eager fans longing for a way to discover it.
15 years back, an ordinary spectator might not have recognized “Invincible,” instead querying, “What’s that?
The landscape has shifted significantly, largely due to Prime Video’s successful superhero series carving out a legendary niche within pop culture. Already, viewers are eagerly anticipating Invincible Season 4, and some are even diving into the original comics to uncover what transpires next – trust me, it’s quite captivating!
On another occasion, Kirkman hasn’t just made his cherished tale appear on the screen for the first time. Apart from the ongoing live-action film project, he has teamed up with MTV to create a TV show, but unfortunately, that show seems to have vanished without a trace.
MTV’s Invincible TV series has vanished from the internet
Instead of a traditional TV series like Prime Video’s, MTV’s version was a motion comic, planned for release in 36 segments.
On MTV’s digital platform, you can find Invincible, a show adapted from the comic books by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker. This 36-episode series will be accessible everywhere starting July 22nd, revolutionizing how comics are brought to life on screen.
The show applied a method known as the “bomb-xx procedure” to convert the initial artwork of the source material into an immersive, digitally comical cinematic experience.
In an earlier conversation, Kirkman expressed that adjusting to the moving images, as the comics themselves were animated, initially took a moment. However, he found it exhilarating to hear actors speak dialogue that he had written many years prior.
13 episodes of the series were aired from July 22, 2017, to April 16, 2009, and could previously be streamed on Amazon’s video player before Prime Video, as well as on iTunes, Xbox Live, and MTV Mobile.
It seems that only a brief trailer for the show is available (you can find it on The New York Times’ website), and there are just a few images on its IMDb page. Unfortunately, none of the episodes can be found online as they have been removed from every streaming platform. Even unofficial sources won’t help you find them; they’re no longer accessible.
Over the years, fans have suggested bringing back the series multiple times, and recently, this idea has been discussed on the Lost Media subreddit, which boasts over 296,000 members. While some old listings have been made accessible, none of the web pages contain a working video player. It seems that no one saved the videos when they were initially released.
Based on what’s available on the New York Times website – a picture of a poster and expired iTunes passes from San Diego Comic-Con 2008 – we have limited information about the promotion of the series.
Keep your spirits high! Just as the original Family Guy pilot reappeared after being missing for more than three decades, there’s a possibility that we might locate Invincible too.
For now, take a look at Kirkman’s upcoming Invincible comic due next month. If you’re interested in spoilers, discover the fate of Powerplex, Oliver, and Darkwing II.
You can also keep tabs on the show’s soundtrack and find other shows like Invincible to watch next.
In addition, we had a chat with Kirkman who clarified the reasons behind Spawn’s absence from the Invincible War and the potential delay in releasing a Rex Splode special. Moreover, he provided us with some recent insights regarding the development of the Invincible video game.
