As a dedicated fan, I can proudly say that the latest installment of Assassin’s Creed, Shadows, has made a remarkable debut on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. In fact, it didn’t take long for this game to gather over 1 million players upon its launch, according to Ubisoft. Furthermore, the number of concurrent players on PC via Steam on its release day appears to be impressive when compared to the previous release, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. However, it’s important to note that this comparison comes with a caveat.
4 o’clock hasn’t struck yet in Canada, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already surpassed 1 million players! A huge thank you from us for embarking on this adventure in Feudal Japan. We are thrilled to begin this journey with you! 💝

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but notice the distinct launch strategies for two of my favorite Assassin’s Creed titles: Shadows and Valhalla. On PC, Shadows made its grand entrance simultaneously on Steam and the Epic Games Store right from the start. In contrast, Valhalla took a different path when it first appeared on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Google Stadia in November 2020. It was indeed playable on PC at the same time, but it was an Epic Games Store exclusive until November 2022. Interestingly, when Valhalla finally landed on Steam, it reached a peak of 15,431 concurrent players in December 2022.
On its debut day, Shadows outshone many with a whopping 41,412 gamers joining in, and that number has since swelled to an impressive 42,415. In stark contrast, Assassin’s Creed Mirage started with a comparatively smaller crowd of 7,837 players. As I type this, Shadows hasn’t surpassed the concurrent player count of Origins (41,541) or Odyssey (61,984), but with the weekend rush yet to come post-launch, these numbers could potentially skyrocket even higher.
Speaking about Ubisoft’s current economic difficulties, analyst Joost Van Dreunen stated that the success of the game Shadows might serve as a significant turning point for the company. If Shadows performs exceptionally well in terms of sales, it could contribute substantially to improving Ubisoft’s financial standing.
As an enthusiastic player, I recently learned about an exciting change in the game: Now, specific items within shrines are protected from destruction. This could be a reaction to the Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s critique and the broader conversation surrounding potential cultural sensitivity issues.
