Let’s hit the road, let’s head out, we’re off to catch a movie – it’s the live-action reboot of Snow White at the theater. However, if you prefer streaming it on Disney Plus, here’s your waiting time.

Every year, it seems like Disney keeps revamping its beloved animated originals with stunningly realistic visuals. Recently, we were treated to Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the blockbuster live-action adaptation which grossed more than $700 million.

While not all of their previous productions have been successful, the studio’s upcoming project is highly anticipated: a live-action remake of their inaugural animated film, “Snow White,” featuring Rachel Zegler as the main character, Snow White, and Gal Gadot portraying the wicked queen.

When the Snow White remake should arrive on Disney Plus

The reimagined version of Snow White is set to premiere on Disney Plus no later than July 2025. It’s possible that the release could happen as early as June 2025 if the film doesn’t perform well at theaters, but it won’t be available any earlier than that.

Based on Disney’s past release patterns, you might speculate that their new movies will likely become available for streaming around the 100-day mark following their theatrical release, or perhaps even longer. For instance, Deadpool and Wolverine were made available after an 110-day wait, while Inside Out 2 appeared on Disney Plus about 103 days post-theater release. However, it’s important to note that this has not been officially confirmed by Disney itself.

Worldwide screenings of Snow White start on March 21st, which means the 100-day theatrical run will conclude on June 29th (a Sunday). Typically, Disney releases new movies on streaming platforms midweek. Therefore, it’s possible that the movie could become available for streaming as early as July 2nd (on a Wednesday).

How to watch Snow White now

The new adaptation of Snow White will debut in movie theaters on March 21, 2025. At this point, there is no alternative way to see it except by visiting a theater; there’s currently no option for on-demand viewing at home.

From my perspective as an enthusiast, I can’t definitively say if it’s a must-watch, but it does have a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on close to a hundred reviews. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s poor quality – instead, it seems to be generating quite a bit of debate among critics.

A more straightforward rephrasing could be: “What’s disappointing is how predictable Disney’s choices have become. For instance, with Snow White, they’ve essentially followed their formula – put in the minimum effort to make a movie, then decorate it with lots of adorable computer-generated animals and pray that viewers won’t notice.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for this refreshing take on timeless content! IndieWire praises it for striking an excellent balance between innovative updates and deep-rooted respect for tradition. Essentially, it serves as a valuable reminder of what truly merits our attention and critique: the end result. And let me tell you, this one delivers the goods!

When will Snow White be released on digital?

Snow White is expected to be released on digital platforms sometime in May 2025.

Instead of waiting for Disney Plus to premiere it, you can stream it at home about two months following its cinema debut, either by purchasing or renting it digitally on demand.

Keep in mind, however: It’s not an inexpensive option. When Deadpool & Wolverine became available for video-on-demand, you had to pay $29.99 to purchase or $24.99 to rent (trust me, the extra five dollars is worth it).
