Tom Cruise to Receive BFI Fellowship

Tom Cruise is set to receive the British Film Institute‘s highest honor, the BFI Fellowship.

The well-known Hollywood actor, who is at present in the U.K., filming a currently unnamed movie directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu for Warner Bros. and Legendary, has been honored for his exceptional acting abilities and significant impact on the British film industry, as stated by the BFI.

Certainly, alongside Alejandro Iñárritu’s endeavors, Tom Cruise has spent a significant chunk of the past few decades residing and working in the United Kingdom. During this time, he filmed numerous “Mission: Impossible” movies on location across the country. Notably, he fractured his ankle while filming “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” in London. Moreover, it is speculated that a large portion of the upcoming installment, “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning,” which is expected to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, was filmed in the U.K., specifically at Longcross Studios and the Lake District.

Beyond his work in the spy series, Tom Cruise has also taken on numerous roles in the U.K., such as “Legend” alongside Ridley Scott, “Eyes Wide Shut,” directed by Stanley Kubrick, “Interview with the Vampire,” helmed by Neil Jordan, and Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow.”

Apart from his spy movies, Tom Cruise has filmed various productions in the U.K., including “Legend” with Ridley Scott, “Eyes Wide Shut,” directed by Stanley Kubrick, “Interview with the Vampire” and Doug Liman’s “Edge of Tomorrow.

Cruise expresses heartfelt gratitude for this recognition,” he says. “For more than four decades, I’ve been creating films in the UK and have no intentions of slowing down. The UK is filled with exceptional artists – actors, directors, writers, and crew members – as well as breathtaking landscapes that serve as the perfect backdrop for our stories. I am thankful for the British Film Institute’s efforts in promoting UK filmmaking and nurturing this beautiful art we both cherish.

The BFI noted that the Fellowship was also a recognition of Tom Cruise’s consistent advocacy for cinema. They encouraged viewers to watch not just his movies but any film in a theater whenever feasible, as this would contribute significantly to global box office earnings.

On May 12th, Tom Cruise will receive the BFI Fellowship during the BFI Chair’s Dinner in London. This event won’t be like a typical Tom Cruise stunt, as he’ll be receiving an honor instead. The day before, Tom will participate in a special In Conversation talk at the BFI Southbank. Additionally, the BFI Southbank is hosting a month-long tribute to Tom Cruise’s film career, featuring screenings of 27 of his movies.
