Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled a sneak peek for “One Battle After Another,” the upcoming movie from writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Sean Penn. This is Anderson’s new project following his 2021 hit, “Licorice Pizza.” The film hits theaters on September 26.
The brief preview will be released prior to the full trailer coming out next week. It primarily features characters engaging in gunfights in an open field, with Taylor’s character prominently shown brandishing a rifle while DiCaprio casually sips a drink and observes. In the following scene, a baby is born, and a voiceover questions, “What are you going to do about this baby?” The teaser then abruptly ends with the grown-up child mimicking her mother by firing a rifle.
At the very moment you feel you understand the situation,” someone remarks, Leonardo DiCaprio, now sporting a goatee, aims a gun while M. Night Shyamalan’s character pulls a terrified young woman down an alley.
Before the trailer was unveiled, all we knew about the movie’s storyline was that it would be set in modern times and feature a large cast. However, before any plot details emerged, there were whispers that this film could be director Wes Anderson’s costliest production yet. Initial estimates suggested “One Battle After Another” might cost over $100 million, with more recent figures reaching as high as $140 million.
In a surprising turn of events, despite garnering positive reviews, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest production, “Licorice Pizza,” ended up losing tens of millions due to its inability to recoup its initial $40 million investment. However, the breakout star of the film, Alana Haim, is set to collaborate with Anderson once more on “One Battle After Another.” Joining them will be Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle, and Chase Infiniti.
The movie started its main filming as “BC Project” in January 2024, primarily in California – a common setting for Anderson’s films. “One Battle After Another” was captured on 35 mm film with VistaVision cameras. Besides the California shoot, scenes were also shot on-location in El Paso, Texas.
In August 2024, ‘One Battle After Another’ will hit theaters as the sixth joint project of Anderson and composer Johnny Greenwood, their fifth collaboration with first assistant director Adam Somner (who tragically passed away in November 2024). This film is being distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
