In the latest Daredevil series titled “Born Again,” the Punisher makes his comeback, and when Jon Bernthal‘s intense action graces our screens on Disney Plus, prepare for a spectacle brimming with violence – plenty of it.
Casting Bernthal as Frank Castle has proven to be one of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s brilliant choices, and fans have eagerly anticipated his return to the character since the cancellation of the MCU’s mini-universe on Netflix.
This week on Daredevil, The Punisher made his reappearance, prompting Matt to pursue him following the death of White Tiger. “You’re seething with rage, aren’t you?” Frank observes. “I can see it on you, it’s everywhere… You despise yourself. It consumes you because you haven’t taken any action against it,” he says to Matt.
You’ll reunite with them by the final chapter of this season, however, it seems that Marvel has different schemes in store for The Punisher.
Jon Bernthal hypes up “no holds barred” The Punisher special on Disney Plus
Although The Punisher won’t have a Season 3, Jon Bernthal is set to reappear in a special Marvel production, following the acclaimed releases of Werewolf by Night and the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special.
Bernthal shared with EW that he feels the role has provided an opportunity for him to delve deeper into the character of Frank Castle, the one he’s keen on bringing to life.
In the background of this production, the actor plays a significant role. He pens the script himself and works closely with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, as they did in We Own This City and King Richard.
As a dedicated gamer, I walked myself through every step of the process. I stepped up, presented my idea, sketched out a rough blueprint before I even started jotting anything down, and I couldn’t help but feel like I needed to earn it, not just be given it.
They’ve reviewed some of my work, requested a presentation from me, which I provided. Since then, they’ve kept me on track at every stage. I’m eager to prove myself and make this successful. I believe the narrative we’ve created is quite unique and exceptional.
This new portrayal of Frank will be raw, psychologically intense, relentless, without any compromise, as he’ll face away from the audience. Every action won’t be effortless and all violence will have consequences, which we’ll witness. I’m thankful that they’re allowing me to explore these deeper aspects of the character.
It’s uncertain if Castle will appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but following his departure from the first Daredevil reboot, Bernthal feels that the Marvel Cinematic Universe now has a vision for the character that seems appropriate.
They have a vision for his destination and the environment they prefer for him, but they’re granting me the freedom to decide the path and ensuring it’s sincere, genuine, and trustworthy.
