Vietnam’s ‘The Ancestral Home’ Leads Skyline Media’s Strong FilMart Slate (EXCLUSIVE)

Based in Vietnam, Skyline Media is preparing to create a stir at the Hong Kong FilMart event with an impressive collection of Vietnamese and Southeast Asian films. The star attraction of this lineup is the blockbuster hit, “The Ancestral Home.

Directed by Huynh Lap (known for the “Land of Spirits” franchise) and starring singer-turned-actor Phuong My Chi in her leading role debut, “The Ancestral Home” has quickly become Vietnam’s highest-grossing spiritual film of all time. The family drama comedy follows a Gen Z content creator who returns to her ancestral home for viral content, only to encounter her deceased brother’s ghost and deal with greedy relatives. The film has already grossed over $9 million with more than 2.8 million admissions in just two weeks, making it Vietnam’s seventh highest-grossing local film.

Other notable titles in Skyline’s lineup include “The Real Sister,” one of Vietnam’s biggest family dramas of 2024. Directed by Khuong Ngoc and produced by Pham Tran Bao Quyen, the film features an all-star female cast from Vietnam’s most successful productions. After holding the top spot among local films for five consecutive weeks and surpassing $4 million domestically, it has expanded to over 100 locations across North America and is now moving into Australia and New Zealand markets.

Looking ahead, Skyline is promoting “The Fatal Dealz,” Vietnam’s first thriller focused on high tech and AI-driven fraud. Set for a third-quarter 2025 release, the cybercrime thriller comes from the creative team behind “Muoi: The Curse Returns.” The company’s horror offerings are particularly strong this year, featuring “Gemini,” Vietnam’s first horror film centered on twins in the womb; “The Silent Game,” a thriller exploring body shaming and social media dangers; “The Bride,” a Thailand-Vietnam co-production about a haunted wedding dress; and “Beheading,” a Cambodian horror feature about an ancestral spirit threatening generations of a family.

In a departure from genre fare, Skyline is also presenting “Hoang Thuy Linh: Vietnamese Concert Film,” documenting the career-defining performance of the pop sensation known globally for her viral hit “See Tình.”

Hong Kong FilMart takes place March 17-20 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
