Poppi drink fans worried after $2bn buyout from Pepsi

Fans of the prebiotic soda Poppi are worried that Pepsi may change the “healthy” drink after buying the company for nearly $2 billion.

Initially introduced as ‘Mother Beverage’ in 2018, the company was rebranded to Poppi in 2020 following an appearance on the popular television program Shark Tank.

Since then, it’s skyrocketed in popularity as a healthier version of regular soda with a ton of different flavors and has gone on to sell millions of dollars worth of product.

It’s gotten so popular, in fact, that PepsiCo announced on March 17, 2025, that it entered an agreement to buy Poppi for a massive $1.65 billion. However, fans of the “better” soda drink are worried that its new owners may change it for the worse.

News of the massive purchase quickly made its way around social media, with many X accounts sharing the news that Poppi will join PepsiCo’s lineup of super popular drinks, including Mountain Dew, Starry and Gatorade.

A large number of individuals expressed their opinions by commenting on post responses, expressing concern that Pepsi could alter the current recipe of Poppi.

“Now they can add corn syrup and other dyes to make them as gross and unhealthy as other Pepsi products,” one user commented.

Another said: “They better not use harmful ingredients now that they acquired it. Leave it as is!”

Although some people express concern regarding the future of the beverage, others remain relatively unfazed by the acquisition, primarily focusing on the staggering cost associated with it.

“2 BILLION is absolutely absurd,” one user replied.

This is just the latest massive drink company purchase over the last few months. Back in October 2024, Keurig Dr Pepper acquired energy drink and supplement company Ghost for just under $1 billion.
