“Wednesday” Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2025, but it sounds like ideas are already being conjured up for episodes beyond that.
Jenna Ortega, the star of the hit dark comedy series, told Collider that the writers are “messing around and throwing out ideas” for Season 3 of the “Addams Family” offshoot.
“We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game,” Ortega said.
And while there is still no release date for the second season of “Wednesday,” Ortega provided an update on the long-awaited installment.
“We’re still in the edit. I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago,” she said. “That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I’ll probably be working on it until the end.”
Ortega also teased some of the cinematic references in the upcoming episodes. With half of the first season’s episodes directed by executive producer Tim Burton, “Wednesday” drew inspiration from gothic and horror classics like “Beetlejuice,” “Carrie” and “Prom Night.” Speaking about Season 2, Ortega said, “Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had.”
“It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head — that’s all I can say — and it reminds me so much of ‘Full Metal Jacket.’ It’s insane. So bizarre,” Ortega said.
She added that there is a “whole episode based off of slashers” in Season 2, plus even more “horror references.”
“I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice,” Ortega said.
Fresh off of her major turn in 2024’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Ortega can next be seen in A24’s horror comedy “Death of a Unicorn,” out March 28.
