Why Are Monster Hunter Wilds Players Upset With Multiplayer Mechanics?

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the multiplayer features can be overly intricate, causing many players to feel disappointed and aggravated.

Monster Hunter Wilds offers a multiplayer cooperative hunting experience, where players can team up to finish quests together. The excitement of hunting massive monsters with friends in a smooth co-op setting is unmatched, unless it’s spoiled by the game developer.

While the game has been heavily praised for its overall improvement in various mechanics, its multiplayer system takes a step backward. Since the launch of the title, players have been heavily criticized about the co-op mechanics, leaving them frustrated and upset with the Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer mechanics.

Capcom has once again delivered a complex multiplayer system, much like Monster Hunter World. However, many players feel Wilds is even worse than World in this aspect. While Monster Hunter Rise has made the co-op clear and straightforward, with Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom has regressed in delivering a seamless co-op game.

Monster Hunter Wilds Complicated the Co-Op Experience

Rather than offering a streamlined experience, the game offers various options for multiplayer, such as inviting friends, private lobby, link party, and link environment, which add unnecessary complexities.

A Steam user named Krusty McBusty the Jizzwow Cloth expressed their disappointment by stating:

“Have the devs not played any other co-op games to see how much better things can be? The last two games were so much better than this one when it came to how to do co-op. How does Capcom manage to go backwards? Heck, this isn’t even backwards, idk wtf direction this even is at this point. Sideways? A fuggin zig-zag?”

Another user named 1080Puktra stated about the complexity of the mechanism by mentioning:

“You know it’s bad when there’s dozens of guides online on how to play with your friend. I straight up send a YouTube guide to my friend because the game does basically nothing at telling you how any of it works.”

In a nutshell, the multiplayer co-op process involves: Inviting Friend > Link Party > Post/Join Quests. Many players report delays in friends appearing on the list and frequent errors. Additionally, issues are raised with the cutscenes, which prevent seamless experience, leaving players confused.

For the most expected free-roaming part, while the environmental link allows you to roam around the map freely and hunt monsters together, there’s a major caveat — you can’t post or join a quest while environmentally linked. Players wonder why Capcom has designed the Monster Hunter Wilds multiplayer co-op with such limitations and complexities instead of a more intuitive invite/join approach.
