Despite the overwhelming success of Pokemon TCG Pocket since its launch a year ago, not all aspects of the game are universally loved among players. For instance, the trade tokens introduced in January drew strong criticism, mainly because they required players to destroy their duplicate cards for acquisition. Now, it’s been announced that the developers, Creatures Inc. and DeNA, will be eliminating the trading tokens and replacing them with a new form of in-game money instead.
According to the Pokemon’s official website announcement, come autumn, trade tokens will no longer be a part of the game. Instead, Shinydust will take their place as the new currency for trading cards within the game. Any remaining Trade Tokens in players’ inventories after the transition will automatically be exchanged into Shinydust.
In trades involving cards with three-diamond, four-diamond, or one-star rarity, Shinedust will be necessary. The specific cost breakdown of Shinedust hasn’t been revealed yet. Players can earn Shinedust by getting cards they’ve already registered in their Card Dex, and since it’s used for trades, the developers are considering boosting the amount given to players.
In the future, the in-game trading feature will get an upgrade allowing players to display the cards they wish to trade. This should streamline the trading process. Additionally, developers are looking into enabling players to exchange non-tradeable cards such as promo cards and two-star rarity cards.
1) At the close of February, the Triumphant Light expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket was released, following the game surpassing 100 million downloads. This week, Niantic’s gaming division, developer of Pokémon Go, was acquired by Scopely in a $3.5 billion transaction. Despite this, preparations remain on track for hosting Pokémon Go Fest events in Paris and other locations this summer. The upcoming Pokémon game for Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends Z-A, has begun to reveal its starter Pokémons ahead of its launch later this year.
