However, this recent release from Koei Tecmo has not been warmly welcomed on computers due to technical issues that players have raised concerns about. To make matters worse, it appears that modders are finding it difficult to create engaging content for the game.

Rise of the Ronin with mod support? It’s complicated

In the game “Rise of the Ronin“, developers at Koei Tecmo employed their own technology called Katana Engine. This engine has its advantages and disadvantages, but for PC gamers, one significant issue is the extremely limited compatibility with mods. Some players have voiced their concerns about this on Steam.

Katana Engine struggles with intricate fan-made content. At present, most Rise of the Ronin mods primarily alter game colors or allow the HUD to be disabled. It’s worth noting that these modifications are built using external software called ReShade, which makes the installation process a bit more involved.

It’s likely that in the future, we’ll witness an increase in mods for “Rise of the Ronin”. Given the pattern set by previous games using this engine, such as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, it seems reasonable to expect that the enhancements will primarily revolve around the game’s visual elements. Therefore, it’s important to note that significant changes in the gameplay are unlikely.

Indeed, there are instances where game engines can be challenging to modify, such as in games developed by FromSoftware. Yet, the persistence of fans has often overcome this challenge. If the community around Rise of the Ronin is sufficiently dedicated, they too could achieve success. However, it seems difficult at the moment due to a relatively small player base.
