The recently released document offers insights into the circumstances leading up to the anticipated release of the Switch 2, a highly-anticipated event in the gaming world slated for 2025 and set to share the spotlight with the launch of GTA 6.
Analyst Serkan Toto predicts that Nintendo will experience substantial sales of the Switch 2 during its initial release period, suggesting that demand for the device will be strong regardless of its price. Toto also shared his expectations for some of the games likely to debut on the Switch 2 within the first year, including Mario Kart 9, a new 3D Mario game, Metroid Prime: Beyond, and Pokemon Legends Z-A.
In addition, he anticipated that it’s likely a new Call of Duty title might debut on Nintendo Switch 2 within its first year, along with other third-party backing.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m speculating about the upcoming Switch 2. Similar to analysts like Yijia Zhai from UBS and Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein, I anticipate that the Switch 2 will cost at least $100 more than the initial price of the original Switch ($300) when it hits the market. Robin Zhu hinted at a potential launch in June, suggesting Nintendo might have up to 8 million units ready for the first-day inventory.
According to Toyo Securities analyst Hideki Yasuda, the estimated cost of the new chipset in the Switch 2 from Nvidia could reach around $150. Since this is a significant increase compared to the $80 per unit for the original Switch, Yasuda suggested that Nintendo might decide to price the Switch 2 at approximately $499.
Another point to consider is how potential U.S. tariffs might affect the cost of the upcoming Switch 2. It’s still uncertain how this will play out. According to Bloomberg, Nintendo has begun moving some hardware production for the Switch 2 to Vietnam, a country currently free from new tariffs. However, the Switch 2 is also set to be produced in China, where tariffs may apply at the time of launch. It’s possible that China-made units could be distributed to regions other than the U.S., but no details have been confirmed as of now.
Based on predictions from analyst Hiroshi Yamashina of Macquarie Capital, it’s anticipated that the new Switch 2 could surpass sales of over 20 million units in its initial year. In contrast, the original Switch managed to sell approximately 13.12 million units during its first full year.
The release date for further details about the Nintendo Switch 2 is set for April 2nd, which will be unveiled in a dedicated Nintendo Direct event.
